Hello everybody! I live in Edmonton and will be purchasing a 1991 L300 from a local repair shop. I'm really excited and I also have questions. I'll try to keep them to minimum as there is a lot of info online. A question I have is what kind of roof rack would be recommended to use? I've seen a few models online and on kijiji they are general purpose. But I'm unsure. Thanks for your help.

I just got Thule gutter mounts and cross bar. They come in different heights depending on the roof of your van. Very good quality. I think a lot of guys use them.

Thanks for the info 204explorer! I had seen an ad on Kijiji for a rack/basket combo for $300. Another question I have is how are these vehicles for long trips and large hills? I had read a few different reviews ranging from a great vehicle right to would never drive again.

Took me awhile to find one but I was lucky to find roof rack/basket (a little rusty) on craigslist last year. I was also able to find some sportrack gutter cross bars. Check amazon.ca too.

I'll second the Craigslist idea although I found four Yakima rain-gutter towers and two 58" cross-bars on Amazon (two separate sellers) all for less than the cost of two towers new from Yakima. I found good deals on roof baskets on CL but all the baskets seemed dinky after seeing the legit ones from Japan, so I bought the cross bars for now and will get a FTS roof rack when funds allow.
As far as opinions on the Delica for long trips, we've only done one trip over two hours of driving but...it's made for it! Hills are a SLOW part of life. If you dig deep enough on this site, there are a series of somewhat simple mods that will make driving in changing elevation less of a slog (heck driving at ALL...) but It'll never fly up a mountain like a hot-rodded Cummins

Thanks for advice Morgonzo! I'll explore the dark corners of the site to find helpful tips!
