The brakes start off soft after what you've done and a good indication of caliper problems comes as the brake pedal tension increases. Probably not air in the lines.

I use a plastic one way flow valve in my princess auto bleed bottle, looping the tubing up to the bleed bottle. You can see the air bubbles as they bleed out, flowing up through the fluid. It's a solo effort with a one way flow valve.
Still hectic, pumping the brake pedal with the engine running, watching the master cyl so you don't run out of fluid or overfill the brake bleed cup. LOL there's plenty of fluid on my garage floor.
I pump the pedal with a piece of 1x2 from outside the drivers window so I avoid climbing in the van. It's a lot easier that way.
That is a nice bleeder but I'm too cheap to buy one. Mine was from an aspirating bulb.

Front upper/lower ball joints and frnt brake rotors. Honestly (I don't know about the L400's) but for my L300 they were $70-80 each. So replaced as one of mine was too far gone to turn. That seems pretty cheap for Big F'n rotors (I ride motorcycles - they are smaller and a whole lot more expensive).
I've also had the callipers replaced a few years back as they get pretty ugly.
But like I said, You may need to supply the parts / make an appt.. He's only had his business for a few years so he's still getting established. He's a good straight forward guy to deal with.

I am in Vancouver I am also experiencing a dragging brake caliper. I think I will just replace the caliper and pads. What are my options to buy parts right now in the city?
Calipers go for approx. how much $$$?

cheapest brake pads and caliper prices are from west can parts, lordco is slightly more expensive but convenience plays a big part. Ask Lordco for their cheapest price , they won't oblige unless you ask for it.
Prices change so just phone and ask.
Hopefully your rotors aren't warped. Best to check the rears for dragging first as they cause the fronts to drag. IMHO
