Child seats

Post by Templar »

I'm guessing there are probably some people with kids on this forum, so I have a question. Can these vans, or any of the JDM sport utes accommidate the tether systems on the modern car seats? I mean to be legal we need to use them, I had to send my truck into the dealer to be retro fitted with the system. So people I know are using the cargo loops in the rear of the Pajero for this. I looked at the cargo loops and they look to be stonger than the metal tab in my mini van, so I don't really have an issue with this, but I was wondering if there is an actual kit available? Does any one know? any ideas.

Hi Simon,

Myself and many other parents have installed the tether hook in our vans. They are a easily installed and can be mounted to virtually any of the seats. You can buy the tether hooks at Canadian Tires or the likes. I'd probably go with a post Aug '91 as they have the shoulder belts at the back while pre Aug '91 only have lap belts.

Once/if you get your van we can show you pictures of those installed.
Good luck!

Hey - I'd like to see those pictures of the installed hooks. I got 5 kids: including 2 in car seats and 1 in a booster seat (no anchor needed)...

We just bought a deli, though it has not been delivered yet, but in our looking, I know in at least one of the delicas we looked at there were a couple of small black bars attached to the back of the 3rd row. I don't think they were designed for anchors, but I do think they would work well as anchors. Just slip the tether strap between the seat and back rest.

I don't know enough about delicas to know what those bars are or if they are on every model, but if they are on the one we have coming I will use them for seat anchors. If not, then I guess we'll buy a kit.

BTW - your kids will thank you one day for owning a delica. :-D And the other kids will think your kids have the coolest parents around.

If you pull up on the bars, they release the seat anchors, and the entire bench pivots up and rotates forward to create more cargo space in the rear.

Ah - maybe not a good thing to pull on in an accident.

Thanks, Fishtank. Connecting the tether to the existing seatbelt anchors or a bolt under the captain chairs seems to be a fairly clean and easy job. I think that's the route we'll go rather than drill a bolt through the floor.

Thank you all for the info. I was curious about doing this in an older vehicle, especially one from Japan, since both of my current vehicles were modified by the dealer. This definately makes my next vehicle choice easier.
