Things are good. My wife did say you called but you didn't leave a number. When you return to Canada your welcome anytime! My Delica is good, I just got new boots for her BFG AT's 30x9.5. After rockin in the Jeep all summer I stored it in the garage for the winter. It is reluctantly for sale but not much action on a softop Jeep in winter... too bad (ha ha)
As for the Fuso it is a constant heated debate in my house so no work has gone forward yet.

What new business venture are you doing? Are you still fabricating lots of Deli parts? Hope you are enjoying the outdoors while being in you Delicas.

I'm planning on coming back over for a month or more to have an even better look around. I hope to make it sometime this year possibly and will try and take in a bit more of BC (Josh/James, is that invite still there??) Making it more of a road trip up to Smithers while still covering old ground to see those people who made me so welcome last time.....

Of course that invitation still stands. So glad to have you back, its been far to long. I even had my delica destroyed in the meantime, and now am driving a little more rustic version... but all and all its still fun as usual. we are glad to have you around again, and glad you are still comming for a visit. whoops I just realized I've only read page 1. Oh well anyways I've lived in ontario, the midwest USA, california, alberta (calgary), and now BC (vancouver) and by far my favourite is vancouver, specifically north vancouver which is it's own city, seperated from downtown vancouver by a bit of water.. still only 10 minutes to downtown vancouver by 2 major bridges or the passenger ferry. The view on the first page from the poster's sister's place in gastown is of north vancouver, NVan is built at the base of mt fromme/grouse and is rather laid back, and more outdoor focused than vancouver itself. By far the most delicas in the vancouver region are in north van (maybe richmond is close), a massive mountain biking/hiking community, even closer to squamish/whistler/north/ferrys to islands than vancouver. And it's cheaper :)


The island is also very nice :)

Being a geographer and librarian, I just can't help comparing Canada with other places. Green1's already posted earlier in this thread a couple of the stats comparing the UK with Canada. Here is a graphic image comparing Canada with all of Europe:

It was awesome to talk to you Bruce, thanks for calling. Since then I have become an apprentice electrician. None of that crazy UK electricity though.

Can't wait to see you back here. My delica is going to get some TLC over the next little while. Then it will be time for some personal modifications. Veg oil, maybe a nice rattle can paint job. Some big bright lights, who knows. I just need to secure the funds, which are coming in much more steadily than lat time we talked, but thats not saying much considering they were non existant.

Good luck getting over here... I'm trying to get a meet together for around the same time as last year... although probably a little soon for you, it would be nice if you could come.

$500k could buy you a good chunk of land in Kamloops. 10ac 20ac even 60+ac, along with a new house. My girl friends cosine and husband moved here from the UK and absolulty love it here. They miss home but much prefer life in BC.

Being a geographer and librarian, I just can't help comparing Canada with other places. Green1's already posted earlier in this thread a couple of the stats comparing the UK with Canada. Here is a graphic image comparing Canada with all of Europe:

Your map comparison is a little off, I think. Being a geographer, you'll know on most flat maps geography gets elongated the farther north or south on the map (more distance between latitudinal lines). For example, measure an inch from the equator covers x kms, but measuring an inch from the arctic circle covers less distance. It has to do with the world being round and the map being flat.

So, even though Canada is a big country, it looks bigger on a flat map because it reaches far north (we all know the north pole resides in Canada, right?! - with due respect to Russia, Denmark, and other countries who insist on saying otherwise ).

If you look at your map, Portugal is roughly the same size as Vancouver Island. But in real life it is over 92,000 km square. Vancouver Island is just over 32,000 km sq. Area-wise Canada and Europe are roughly the same size (9.8 million km sq for Canada; 10.1 for Europe), but your north-south comparison is way off.

Not wanting to be picky or condescending , just want to call attention to the size difference. Needless to say, there's way too much space in Canada for anyone to explore in one lifetime, so it's still big.

BTW - Mystery Machine - we'd be glad to swap with you for a while! I'd love my kids to live in Britain for a bit, as that is part of their heritage. Then we'll go to Japan, 'cause that's another part of their heritage! Too bad it's sooo expensive to live in both places compared to Canada. Depends on the projection. World maps usually use Mercator, which indeed distorts severely (Greenland is much smaller than Australia, unlike on Mercator maps) Not sure what projections the above maps use, but Canada is definitely not Mercator, since the lines of longitude meet at the North Pole.

Bruce, the move to Vancouver is certainly the one to make ;)

My partner and I have recently landed here, and are finding things pretty easy to set up - bank accounts etc, and as you already know the people over here are fantastically friendly! Our move is a little more small scale than yours sounds like it could be though...

Planning on purchasing a Deli towards the end of summer... if we can wait that long! As it stands, we've sorted an apartment in Burnaby close to the skytrain, so don't really need a vehicle. Except for the fact that we've rented a truck this coming weekend to sort out some furniture for the pad...!

(enter geeky cartography student) This map of Canada appears to be a Lambert Conformal Conic projection, typical for our national maps at small scale. You're right, the Europe map appears to be a Universal Transverse Mercator projection (cylindrical projection) and it's not exactly responsible to overlay two different projections. But hey, I'm being super picky too. Google Earth is a great idea for visual scale.

Well, to continue, and being even more picky, I wonder what projection Google Earth uses. They are putting a curved surface onto a flat surface (unless you are still using an CRT display).
