Probably headed to Campbell River area for May long weekend for camping and general relaxing. Brian will be picking me up at work noonish Thursday so we can beat the rush. Don't have a destination in mind yet, depends on how many bodies there are. Port Alberni is out as Snow Creek was full of yahoos last year, and Great Central has the fishing derby and is guaranteed to be yahoo-filled.
Anyone interested in coming along with us? Any suggestions for locations????

Ever been out to Cougar Creek (BCFS campsite)? It's in Nootka sound, down past Nesook, off the Tahsis road. Shouldn't be too many fishermen yet.

Re: May Long camping!!
I looked it up on the Toruism website, looks like it's in the toolies, a little too far from Victoria for a weekend trip. Maybe we'll check it out on summer holidays if we don't end up going to the mainland for some recreation and shopping south of the border. Re: May Long camping!!
We're looking for somewhere to go this weekend, did you finalize your location yet? Sounds like the mainland crew is deferring to you this weekend :)
It's our first real camping trip so we're pretty green on where to go that won't be full. We don't mind a bit of a drive but are leaving after work thursday so that limits us to about 6 hours driving tops.
Our original plan was Eggmont with family but that has been canceled :(

Re: May Long camping!!
We're heading for Mohun Lake, default to Camp 5 if Mohun is full. We'll post signs if we aren't at Mohun. All are on the same road (Menzies Main)
For Mohun: (for those of you with GPS - 50° 5' 9" N, 125° 30' 52" W)
From Campbell River, head north on Hwy.19. Turn left on to Menzies Mainline (gravel road), Look for signs to Morton Lake Provincial Park, that is where you turn off the highway. (roughly 14.5 km or 15 minutes out of town). Drive for another 11.2 km (15 minutes) to the turn-off to Mohun Lake site (on the right side of the road). The site is at a radio call marker 12. Watch for logging traffic on the mainline. Stay on the main road until you get to the site, you don't turn off Menzies Main to get to any of these places.
For Camp 5 (50° 4' 49" N, 125° 35' 30" W)
Approx 5.5 km further (from Mohun) and you'll reach the Camp 5 site. Veer right, go across the bridge and turn right in to Camp 5. Located along the Sayward Forest Canoe Route.
Hope folks decide to come out and play! Camping is FREE at these sites!
