Drove down from 100 Mile House today.... and saw only one Delica - in Boston Bar, parked on the side near the Husky Station with tailgate open...
Usually I see several Deli's - on the Chilliwack-Vancouver stretch alone...
Oh well... that aside... I really have to have a Deli-Tune done... my fuel kilometerage sucks... I only get about 400km's on one tank - and I don't think I'm being overly aggressive on the gas pedal. Also I noticed - while tracking myself with the GPS - that I am doing about 10% speed less than what my Delica-Speedometer tells me.
I have the standard tires on standard rims... did the Delica's have larger tires in Japan? I guess with larger tires, I would get better speed/rpm ratio and the actual speed displayed on the dash would be more in line... As it stands right now doing about 100km/h on the GPS (i.e. 110 on the Delica-Speedometer) will have the engine rev at around 2'600
Will larger tires improve gas consumption vs. distance (for each turn, a bit more distance) or will it be worse - or will it not really matter at all? And if it would worsen the gas kilometerage - why would that be? If anybody knows - just out of curiosity...
Hope everybody had a nice long weekend...
Back to the grind...
Cheers, Chris

Re: Where are all the Delica's?
the larger tires give more distance per turn but it is also harder for the engine to turn them, it's like gears on a bike, the higher gears you go farther per pedal but it's harder to get it going :) as for whether you end up with better or worse, it really depends on the size you go up too, I'm on 31" tires and I think it averages to about the same but it's worse in the city and better on the highway.impalator wrote:Drove down from 100 Mile House today.... and saw only one Delica - in Boston Bar, parked on the side near the Husky Station with tailgate open...

Re: Where are all the Delica's?
31's on an auto will net you less mpg than 235/75's
31's on a 5-spd will net you better mpg than 235/75's
it's all in the gearing
the biggest determination for mpg is your foot.
i'll get 24-25 mpg on the highway doing 95 km/h with a very light foot and no pushing down on uphills
i'll get 16-18 mpg on the highway doing +108 km/h driving moderately
as soon as you hit over 2,800 rpmish on an auto or 2,900 rpmish on a 5spd, the fuel starts sucking really bad.
there is a sweet spot on the highway for both auto and 5spd's. once you find it, you'll know.
as for city driving. the auto sucks fuel like a thirsty cow in the middle of a desert compared to the 5spd's.
driving as heavy footed as I can get without getting crazy, I get 22 mpg in the city no matter uphill, traffic or standing still on my 5spd. I had a very difficult time getting almost 1/2 that in the city with the same driving style on my prev auto.

Re: Where are all the Delica's?
I was running back from Merritt last weekend and was doing 110 @ 2,800 RPM... 120 @ 3,000 RPM. Is it strange that the "sweet spot" seems to be in that range (2,800-3,000rpm)? Under it sounds like the engine is working it but at that point it slides into quiet cruise mode...impalator wrote:As it stands right now doing about 100km/h on the GPS (i.e. 110 on the Delica-Speedometer) will have the engine rev at around 2'600
oh, and to not TOTALLY hijack the thread... I saw 3 Delica's going out and one coming back. Also saw 3 on the sea2sky coming back from the spit the weekend before.
So far lovin this machine!

Re: Where are all the Delica's?
I don't think the fuel gauges are all that accurate, at least on mine, i commonly have the needle touching empty and my odometer shows about 425km's traveled, but when i top up the diesel it only takes 35 litres to fill it.impalator wrote:Drove down from 100 Mile House today.... and saw only one Delica - in Boston Bar, parked on the side near the Husky Station with tailgate open...

Re: Where are all the Delica's?
I have been watching my fuel very keenly on my drive up the coast here.
I noticed that I am getting an average of 500 kms if I stay under 100 kph on the highway, but it does drop considerably when i am going over 110 kph.
However, I did get one day of almost 600 kms per tank and I was cruising btw 80-90.
I wonder if the quality of diesel varies greatly from one brand to the other. In saying that I got worse mileage with the diesel in Mexico.
Also to comment on the fuel guage. I think there pretty wacked. I have had over a 100kms on the odometer and the feul guage has barely moved off the full line. I have also had a couple times where i have over 300 kms and i still have half a tank.
i will be interested to know what my average has been when i finally do get back to Canada - 10 months and counting.
peace
