Even worse update:
Well, it wasn't working and a different sound as well as the original
started to occur. Drove it back.
Now they are claiming I have a tranny problem too.
Funny thing is I never had this noise prior to going in.
I think they screwed it up, forced something, banged something
...
ah well. Can't prove anything.
Just warn everyone.
Do NOT take your stuff into DandD Imports in PA.
I was warning about buying, but now... don't take
anything into there.

Im scared to see what the bill is going to be.

That sucks. I hope that its an easy fix for you. Hope they at least cut you a break on the job as it broke right after being "fixed".

Problem is that I can't prove it, Tranny problems
are never exactly cheap.
Input shaft bearing.. or something like that over
any syncho bearings .. i hope.

This has become my blog ;)
The transmission place was able to determine it's the input shaft bearing and
they were able to get it out without ripping the tranny apart :)
Add's only $170 apparently to my bill.
We will see tomorrow.
Might have the van back... tomorrow.

Feeling a bit better.
Hate seeing the empty parking spot out front of our house.
Although I have a kabota lawn mower parked there at the moment.

HAHAH update
It's gotten so bad it's funny.
I was told it was going to be ready last night after the
tranny shop was done and they popped it in.
So I delayed my Mom who was in town to take me since they
live close to where I needed to go.

When we got to PA I saw my van driving down the road.
Weird. So I called the shop and said it's ready right?
The mechanic just drove it back to the transmission shop
for a 2nd opinion. !
What?
So I had to wait to find out more. Met up with my dad, so
we went to look at a boat that he was interested in.
A nice used 17" starcraft aluminum with 90 evinrude 4 cyl.
motor. Ended up buying it. (Might mean I get his old boat
for free or cheap)
Then got a call saying I needed to come to the shop.
No explanation.

Anyway, a new noise, Still the Release bearing. It's another
new one with a kit. Nothing wrong with it but it doesn't fit
properly so it's make noise when it gets engaged and pushed
up against the pressure plate?

<sigh>
I start to get mad, my dad has experience with cracking
transmissions and such so he's a good guy to have with me.
Funny how I didn't know about that part of his job history.

So the transmission guy is either going to find a release
bearing that fits properly or rebuild the original which I guess
he is capable of doing. And he's footing the bill. Not sure why
but I was angry at the time. They tried to tell me before that
part that the noise should just go away with time. My dad
stepped in and started up with some technical info that basically
said that was ridiculous and would cause premature wear on the
clutch fork and some other things.

So I drove my mom's van back last night.
It was a weird feeling. I was next to my van feeling that
it shouldn't be there. It needed to be parked in it's parking
spot at home.
I'm weird, I know... just the strangest feeling.

Anyway, that's the latest update.
And yes, in front of witnesses I stated out loud
"what! is this going to cost me ANOTHER $1000?????'
They said it will cost nothing. And other people heard that.
He had the nerve to ask me for the full amount oweing
before I left. I said not a chance...

Sorry to hear about all the issues. I know it is too late for this time, but if you have a major problem again, you might drive south to Regina instead of north to PA. Not a whole lot further. There is a shop there called Performance Auto. We have had some minor work done on our van and were very satisfied. Moreover, my SO has used them for years for her VW diesel Jetta and they have been very good. They "specialize" in imports and seem to do a lot of work on VW's, Subarus, Porches, etc. The thing that I noticed the first time we took the van in (install a block heater) was that they were not intimidated in the least by it even though they had never worked on one. Herman's (the owner) comment was "....how hard can it be? It not much different than a lot of other vehicles. We may need a little help sourcing parts is all......". What was kinda funny was that there was a bit of a competition amongst the mechanics to see who got to work on it and then take it for a test drive!

Anyway, short story long......we are happy with the work they do and hey, any shop where the owner is restoring an old Alfa Spider can't be all bad!!

Do you get the rattle only when the clutch pedal is pressed in?
You also mentioned difficulty shifting in higher gear, if I read correctly.
If the clutch disc is installed backwards, you'll experience both of those problems.

Naa, things were installed in the correct orientation.
No problems shifting.

sorry to hear about your Delica joke. I also owned a L300 in Saskatoon, after spending $1500.00 on know-nuttings in Saskatoon i got p.o.'d and drove all the way to Richmond to get Butch to tune it up. Got a sweet running Deli with a $3000.00 tune up (should have just lived with black smoke). Sold the diesel and bought a L400 Super Exceed gas, drives like a Caddy and plows snow like Deli's do.
Saskatoon city have a pile of Pajero's that somebody must fix?? Good luck.
