Clutch

Post by flooperer »

Hi,

When I start my van the clutch pedal is always down by the floor. I have to pull it up with my foot. There is little pressure until I have been driving for a while, when the clutch is often (but not always) back up where it should be with lots of pressure. Is this a cylinder problem, I have checked the clutch fluid level and it is right up where it should be in the reservoir?

I have the same exact thing happenning to mine, have not had any luck troubleshooting either. Although with me it has stopped being fully depressed when i start. But it often only comes back halfway. If I give it a flick with my toe it bounces up real fast. the gears seem fully engaged so I'm thinking it's one of the two slave cylinders. I think there is also one above the pedal. But it's so tight up in there its hard to see properly. Anybody else experience this? Any ideas?

If it was me I would try and flush the system. If it doesnt help then you will have a master or slave cyl failure. Peel back the rubber dust boot on them to check for fluid leaking into them.

mine did it once when we were playing around in the abandoned logging camp at the meet. Driving through deep water and such. Hasn't done it since... if thats useful in any way to help you find the cause.

Took my Van into Japan Auto, The Clutch problem seems to be the master cylinder

Is there anything to do to fix it? Or does it need to be replaced? Do you know the cost yet?

He quoted me 300$ for replacement of both master and slave cylinders,He recomended doing both and i have to wait for the parts. I might have been tempted to do this myself, but it seems my van needs alot of work. 2000$ and counting....oh well.
