E&H Towing Hitch

Post by Schwa »

Just got my van back from E&H hitch shop, cost was quite high, but it's extra beefy with a 6 Pole connector and the only thing they had to remove was the bumper: sway bars and spare tire are still functional.

Parts:
Custom 2" Hitch Receiver, tube, steel, bolts... $150
Utility Ball, pin & clip... $45
Connector Plug $10
Stop Light controller $20
Wire $5
Bracket $5

Labour:
Fabricate & install hitch receiver $250
Install Wires, controller & connector $45

Total, including taxes: $598.90

Took about 5 hours to complete. Apparently they pre-fabbed most of the Delica hitch parts but still had to fiddle & fart around to make it fit just right. I noticed a small stack of Delica bumpers, so these guys do see a lot of them.

Thanks for the pictures as I was wondering how I was going to install one.

Towed the 17' Double Eagle boat today... No problem, just took it easy on the backroads of Coquitlam, moving it from my grandfather's place to mine.

Nice!!! How much does that 17ft boat & trailer weigh? Any difficulty with hills?

I'm on "the Island", so I'm not familiar with E&H. Is it a local Coquitlam shop? TIA.

Sorry, I don't know how much it weighs yet, and still haven't taken it up a big hill, but the shop is in Burnaby.

Towed it from Port Moody, up the hill to Coquitlam and it was fine, other than starting from a standstill since it was wet out the back tires slipped. 4H for the initial takeoff took care of that problem tho. The steepest part of the hill forced my speed down to 30km/h but it was a school zone anyhow, so that wasn't a problem.

here's the size compared to a bit of the van:

it's a bit wider as well

yes, but it didn't really make any noticeable difference in power output, and the shop that did it left a section of stock pipe coming down from the turbo, so I don't think it could, but it sounds a hell of a lot better, the muffler should outlast the van, and it might be easier on the turbo... Once I get around to having my injection timing set that should improve power and fuel economy a bit.

Mine's not a lot louder because I still have a muffler, but it's a bit louder than stock... I don't think I'd want it any louder because it's pretty annoying at highway speeds listening to the howl of the engine.
