Lifting an L400 spacegear is more difficult to do properly (professionally) than an L300.
This is because the rear end of an L400's axle rides on coil springs. So you would need longer/heavier rated aftermarket coils, in the front a sub-frame drop down spacer kit and upper 3/4 - lower 3.5 " BJ spacers with shimmed angle.
You also have to carve away a nice chunk more on the L400's front end compared to the L300's.
Lifting the L400 and L300 are identical to lifting a Gen II Montero and a Gen I Montero, which I'd like to add have been around for over 20 years in North America already.
You can buy aftermarket lift kits for both of them in the states.
Simple as that.

Have you heard of this company http://www.rocky-road.com/monterosus.html When my L400 arrives I was looking at this company to purchase a lift. Do you know of a better supply company?jfarsang wrote:CorrectionEnviroImports.com wrote:they are just larger, larger wider components, easier to lift, more stable.more power, more speed,

Re: I'm guilty
hmmm, i believe you could put that lift on the L400, but my lift sure is different, but i have ball joint spacers, drop everything brackets, its pretty elaborate. you should take a look at it, there are alot of similarities but also alot of differences. but im sure there is as many lift kits for them as there are for 80s chevs, everyone has a different version, but if you lift it , just make sure you check the drive shaft angles and the distance on the slip yoke. nothing worse than taking out U-joints every month, or flexing your ride and the drive shaft falls out and dings a spline.... been there, done that...

Just out of curiosity, how high are you lifting an L400 when you're doing that? Or a L300 for that matter?

Re: I'm guilty
there are lots of factors, once you lift your van, you should ramp it, or use a BIG jack and blocks to see if when you have the suspension fully expanded if the slip yolk is maxing out, and see what IS limiting your suspension, like brake line length, shock length, Neither should be the limiting factor in your lift. I would say 3" or higher lift and you really need to look at your limits, but the L300 is the WORST i have EVER seen, not sure why?, just crawl under one and see your rear drive shaft, its VERY short and if you then lift the van, your angles go to hell and you really wear out the U-joints, so you should either Shim the rear axel, or put in a double cardin joint, (2 u-joints) at one end, they will cancel out the bad angle.
most of this is should be either done by someone with ALOT of experience with lifted 4x4s or a profesional shop.

Re: I'm guilty
Evening all.. Well I finally made it on here thanks to the invite from EnviroImports after spotting his video on you tube and me falling in love with his ride... Love those alloys
Also mardy Delica looks like a sweet motor as well and a Royal if i'm not mistaken ?
Cracking looking trucks.. just wished we got more lifted ones over here... exchange rate is killing the import prices at the moment. To give you an idea if you were to sell mine at the moment you'd be lucky to get £2000k sterling and mine only has 110k on the odometer

Was this vehicle from a dealer, private or auction?

Re: I'm guilty
It's his personal L400 Royal Exceed.
As for the montero/L400 lift I should have elaborated.
The rear coils are different. L400 coil diameter is smaller than montero coils. The mounting brackets are smaller as well on the axle so that US lift would not work.
I removed my L400 rear axle last weekend and measured the mount points, frame, axle, coils, brake booster, panhandle bar, etc...
I got a 2.5" lift that I put together and will install it hopefully this weekend. When it's on, I'll post the results.
