Anyone stuff a sportbike into or tow with their Delica?

Hi folks,

I'm surfing & shopping around with the interest of getting into a 1992 Delica, but I'm still looking WAY up the learning curve of these cool little vans. My plan is to keep surfing & do some more schooling for a bit on the subject before I make a move. I need an automatic 2.5L turbo diesel [I think I've seen some of them in 2.0L non-turbo as well as the 2.5L turbo].

My big curiosity is whether or not I can stuff a sportbike [track bike - race track specific motorcycle] into one of these vans if I take the 2 rows of passenger seating out? Would one of you kind Delica.ca members do me a big favour and provide some measurements? I need to know the available floor length from the back side of the engine bay fire wall to the inside of the rear door hatch, the clearance from the floor to the lowest part of the ceiling, and the interior width [I'm wondering if I can fit 2 bikes in a van...].

My next biggest curiosity with these things is the ability to tow a trailer. Anyone here have some experience with that? What is the torque & HP ratings of the 2.5L diesel?

Anyone playing around with larger turbo's or ECU remapping/chipping?

How sturdy is the driveline? Can it handle towing a trailer GVW of 5,000lbs?

What is the average amount of KM's before the 2.5L needs a replacement timing belt & head gasket? Is the down time long to find parts?

Anyone experience any difficulties with the US Authorities not letting you drive your RHD JDM vehicle into the US of A? [Great road racing tracks down there eh!!]

What do you figure are the benefits of buying from a local dealer vrs. the dollar savings & headaches of trying to import one yourself?

So many questions, so little time to access the computer...

Thanks in advance for any information you fine folks can pass along to me.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I'm located in Victoria, BC. I have seen quite a few Delica rolling around town, so I you happen to have a Local Delica Meeting day please let me know. I'd love to drop in and ask a crap load of questions. Thanks again.

I saw a Deli once with a steel I-Beam added to the back bumper, I can only assume it was for a motorbike of some kind. I've been thinking about trying the same thing to transport my scooter.

Thanks for the welcomes. I've answered a few of my own questions with about 4 to 5hrs of reading various posts yesterday.

For example, I don't think I'll be towing a 5,000lb GVW trailer very far...

Interesting! I'd be curious to find out more about how that was done and how well it works :?
