Greetings all.

I'm a long-time Toyota 4x4 van owner (North American TownAce). My Yota is done, so I am purchasing a Deli.

Curious about the Westfalia-style camper top versions I've seen around. Were those a factory option? Anyone do an aftermarket add-on? seen any kits available in Japan, Australia or the UK?

Hi Darryl, I havent seen any camper top conversions, but what you might be noticing are the 3 plus different roof styles. There is a low roof, that basically ends at the roof seam on the side. Then there is the high top, that extends about another six inches above the roof seam. Then the high top with the "Crystal Light" (spelling may be wrong) with the little windows running along the edge of the high top seam. Those are the 3 main choices, but the moon roof opening is added on the some, as an option. None of them pop up from what I've seen.

I'm quite certain I've seen some camper tops at a used car dealership on the King George Hwy hill. Can't remember the name of the place right now, but I'll find out.

i think usually they just convert it to camper, i think mitsubishi japan dont do original camper for delica like P25W or P35W, but on the other side like delica truck model, they do convert & made a real camper i mean a big camper like we got here. i seen some of those but dont know if it pass inspection here since all have been converted on japanese spec. not canaian spec.

That's where I got mine. Silk Road Autos... That van is gone now, but it was there for quite a while, had mechanical problems... saw it all taken apart when I was getting my van.

They are probably 3rd party conversions like Sidewinder, Westfalia or Winnebago.

I gather the Chamonix (?) conversersions had pop-top campers available. My van left Japan on Nov. 21. Looking forward to seeing it here!

Welcome. just so you know mitsubishi does not do the camper pop up roof conversions. they do however have other companies in japan do the conversions. if the van was brand new of the lot & the purchaser wanted to get the camper top conversion,it was possible to get a "factory supervised" conversion.which means they just sent the van out to the conversion specialists for the purchaser.

So, I presume "Chamonix" is on of those companies. Any idea how to contact any of these conversion companies? I will have GTRV in Richmond assess the possibility of installing a pop-up top, and I have emailed 2 different Australian custom van conversion companies to see if they have a fiberglass topper system specifically for the Delica that I could have shipped here to be installed locally.

My friend works for GTRV and his dad is the owner of the business... By all means try it... my offer of using my van as a template for free in exchange for doing the work wasn't so sweet for them. A pop top would have to be very custom and rather expensive... but i'm sure they'd enjoy doing it and after doing one might as well do a b unch right.

Chamonix is not a conversion company, it's a model of Delica, like "Super Exceed" that comes with certain equipment and options, mainly chrome tubes, trippy looking tougher carpeting, a beefy alternator and 2 batteries for cold weather starting.

My Deli is out of its container and on the ground here. I'm waiting for my soil test to be either completed or waived, then I can clear customs and get it compliant...

Which leads me to this:

I know there are other threads here about the many different compliance issues. Some are obviously necessary, and others seem to be grey areas, specifically the high mount brake light. I have not been able to find a reference to the specific requirement that needs to be met by the brake lights, ie/ how high off the ground they need to be. Anyone know?

Also, I am considering having my Deli's compliance service done by a shop. What are the recommendations?
