L400 rear A/C woes

So last fall my AC was working great (front and back). This summer guess what; it doesn't blow cold.

Took it into local shop, they charged it up, and found a couple of leaking 'o' rings to replace while they were at it. It worked good for a day, then I notice that the rear A/C still doesn't work; worse, it actually blows hot! I take the van in again, and they tell me that the 'air blender' box system for the rear isn't working, and there is a leak coming from the rear evaporator box. Now A/C doesn't work in the front again... His suggestion was to 'block off' the rear AC lines, so that front may still work, and rear heat will still work.

I would much prefer to have a fully functioning A'C system front and rear, but maybe this will be cost-prohibitive? Any comments, ideas or suggestions would be gratefully received, as the heatwave is coming...

Anyone else blocked off the rear A/C? where do I get those parts? Is it practicable to DIY any of this? Help!

Blocking the rear ac system is tricky and friends of mine have had miserable results with their LWB Pajeros. One fellow had such bad luck he lost the entire system trying to block the lines....and a professional AC shop did the work. Now he is looking at converting the AC compressor into an air compressor for trail purposes. Thankfully hot Alberta days don't last.

Talk to the various parts guys here on Delica.ca they could have a workable/salvage parts that you could use.

Ebay has stuff as well sometimes.

Repair/replace the leaky rear evaporator so the system holds pressure and you'll get your front working again. Free off the sticky diverter flaps in the rear heater/air con box and you'll get the rear blowing cold again. 8-)

So I went ahead and blocked (got welded) the 2 AC lines going to the rear. The front now works fine without leaks and its bearable in the rear. Maybe one day I will repair or replace the rear evaporator (or maybe not).
