Delica Meet #1 2007

Well, someone had to do it, so lets get started. Considering how spread out we are here, I think an overnight van camp session would be the best way to go about it. I'm just looking at a map and finding places that are semi central to the Williams Lake and Smithers people as well us lower mainland and island owners. I personally would love to have one on the island as well.

For me personally, i'm free any weekend from mid feb to mid april, (when i'm home between long exploring trips) Not that I have to be there for the meet though. Yeah, Smithers is far from anything looking at the map haha.

But anyways, the poll is really just getting started, I will add or remove options at anyones request, and we can figure out a date. I think it would be super fun. Maybe a long weekend camping trip even? I may be too ambitious here but it is definitely worth a shot.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Yeah sweet.. I had made a previous suggestion of a "meet' ....I've got a great Area in mind for a 2-night trip, most dirt road 350kms, Start in Vancouver to harrison hotsprings back road to pemberton (hotsprings en-route), Whistler, squamish, end back vancouver.

if you were to go in summer, you could add too it and do.. gold bridge/ bralorne, and a real long 4x4 route to lilloet .. add another night or 2.

Id like to hear other suggestions as new places are always good.. then just convince my girlfriend to go camping with a bunch of other delica geeks.......

Pemberton works for us, thats just great country in there. The idea of the meet spreading over a few or more days is particularly interesting because not everyone can get the same time frame, as well its nice to be able to come and go. Hopefully the fuel stations wont be more than 400kms apart!

Why not Jasper as an option so our Calgarian friends can come? I guess most people live in Vancouver though or on the island though. So sad I am far away now. Summer though might work for me to get down there.

well as for right now i cant really make it anywhere unless someone is willing to give me the money for fuel to get there cause school is running me dry but if it was to happen in the summer the pemberton area works for me, im not sure where i am going to be placed for work this summer but my parents live in squamton and i am hoping to be somewhere close.

cheers

Fancy an international meet??

I was going to suggest Bristol! But thought that might be a bit biased!

If I can scrape the money together, I'll see if I can make it out.

Mainly for the get-together and to get to meet you guys of course...

...but also to have a nosey around and see what this Canada thing is REALLY about! :D :D :D

I'm out of work and pretty badly struggling with the cash at the moment, but where there is a will - there is a way!  This is one meet I'd LOVE to try and attend..... 8) 8)

Fix a date and I'll see if I can fly over to Vancouver.

One of you will have to ferry me to the meet (couldn't possibly turn up to a Deli meet in a hire car! ) and give me a list of good (AKA cheap!) places to stay!

I voted for Pemberton but then I haven't got a clue what each destination is about - just sounded nice! (my fave spot in the UK is Pembroke - maybe that is why I chose it! )

Regards,

Bruce the excited...... :P

Hey any time sounds good. I'm coming to Van for the boat show, maybe we can arrange a winter rally on that weekend, the 10th and 11th of February. 8) 8) 8)

If enough of us want lift kits, we could probably convince Bruce to deliver and install them for us to pay for his trip and make a little coin on the side. Last count we had three confirmed lift kits. Any more????

Hi James,

I'm afraid that weekend is my Birthday - I'll be in NO fit state to fly or fit lift kits!  (I don't fit them anyway....my mechanic friend does that....I just design them! )

I was thinking later in the year (April>>) for flying out so that I could somehow scrape together some money! (I think that's what I'll ask for for my Birthday! )

Will give you an email about the lift kits anyway....time I updated you... Could you PM me your phone number (or Skype?) and I could call you about this sort of time??

Regards,

Bruce.

P.S. Adam - I am serious about this meet....I really WILL try and make it if it will be April or after....

Bruce,

Pemberton was a beautiful choice, just north of Whistler, BEAUTIFUL.

:DYEAH! that sounds awesome! i'm in victoria but i get a month off at a time as i work on ships for the canadian coast-guard, my schedule is a month at sea then a month off! oh, and thats with pay! so all we have to do is make sure we plan it for a time that will fall during my month off and booyah! i'm in! Pemberton sounds awesome, i haven't been in that neck of the woods in a few years, i use to hike up anniversary glacier and mont Joffre by the cerise creek area, backcontry snowboarding with buddys staying at the memorial cabin up on the ridge...a blast! thats beautyfull country up there, i miss it, gave it all up for my passion of the ocean and surfing, moved to the island to get rid of the ferry cost, met a woman with two kids and now i don't do anything!!  :x oh well, growing up sometimes takes a toll on a lifestyle that used to be based on me, myself and i!! anyways, i'm up for anything, sky's the limit!
i do think that spring or summer might be more pleasant weather wise but hey wathever works!!

I'm free the first half of April. Pemberton sounds like a good place. Again I don't have to be there so if another time works for everyone else great, but if people are available one of the first 2 weekends in april then i am for sure in.

and Bruce, I live right by the airport, so if you don't mind hanging out with a 20 year old or 2 if I can convinve a friend to come then you are more than welcome to catch a ride.

Hey James,

Id be into hooking up if your down in Vancouver, and if we get some keeners go for a little road trip. Your welcome to crash here for a night or two... as I've used your shower a few times in your sweet caribou double wide!

Age is not an issue with me if you're OK with putting up with a 34yr old tea drinker!

Any offer of hitching a ride etc...could well earn you some cool Metal Monkeys kit for the Deli! Many thanks for the kind offer!

Dates I've been looking at so far are as follows:

 16th - 23rd April
 17th - 24th April

As mentioned in the other thread, this is partly to give me some time to have a nosey around the area and see what it is all about....

.....but also the chance to make it to the first Canadian Delica meet! :D

If there is any way you lot can make it these dates, then count me in and I'll book the flight once I've got the cash together.

If not, then don't worry - it'll give me a little more time to explore areas, potential employment and life in general, although a weekend away in that scenery with a load of deli owners is pretty appealing to me!

Any earlier than these dates and the price goes up quite a bit!

Would there be any way of making the meet over the weekend of the 19th - 22nd April??  (please please please please please! )

Bruce (Intended International Deli Meet Attendee :D )

Doubtful if we will make it. Our baby is due mid March so I don't think we'll want to be going on a big Delica Journey/4x4 adventure just yet.

Bruce,
http://www.canadianaffair.com/

I used to live in London and would use them to fly home to Vancouver. They rep for a bunch of charters. Its not the best airlines but it can be affordable if you are flexible and can find a decent price on their system.

Thanks for that Kuan... :D

I've just had another look at dates and I could probably do the week before as well if that made things easier?? (i.e. making the meet the weekend of 13, 14, 15 April)

Basically, you call the date Adam and I'll see what I can do....

Anyone got a spare room??

Regards,

Bruce.
