'90 Exceed in Kamloops

I've been spending HOURS trying to take in as much information as I can for the last couple months. We finally got our 1990 Exceed (42,000km) earlier this week and have been dirtying it up ever since! I consider myself a mechanically inclined though mechanically ignorant person. I haven't actually taken the time much to learn about whatever vehicle is transporting me from A to B. Since the Delica does so much more than just transport A to B, I figure it's about time I start getting my hands a little greasier (without getting in too much trouble...)
If any of you Okanagan folks are facebookers, I started a D.O.G. (Delica Owner's Group) Okanagan group to network for any events that might get planned. In addition, of course, to this fantastic website...

It might have been you I passed heading south on Hwy. 5 on the 19th. If the S.O. (significant other) and baby were in the rear seats, then it was you. I almost get equally odd looks because I am still driving my Tahoe with Florida plates. Highly unusual in parts of BC.
I've been talking about buying a Delica since seeing them on Vancouver Island over Christmas. My parents were about a 1/2 hour behind me coming into Kamloops that day and I think they saw your Delica. "That's the one you are talking about?", my mother questioned over lunch, "It sure is ugly." Well, now I definitely have to buy one!
My only concern is the fuel mileage. There are various numbers out there and I will have to investigate it further. But I'll tell ya' something (as he says in his best Fire Marshall Bill voice), my '97 Chev Tahoe with the Vortec 5.7 L V-8 gets about 25 mpg highway. It is a very, very rare two-door, two-wheel drive and I won't part with it. It has one of the best features any vehicle can have - its paid for! But, with the traveling for work I do, and for the sheer iconoclastic value of it all, I will have to get a Delica. The Tahoe will become a pimp daddy summer vehicle.

As far as mileage goes...- don't forget about that diesel engine that can become a WVO engine... (I haven't made it that far yet)

Soooo, we finally have our wheels back under us. Four days after we first parked our Deli in the driveway, I noticed a fairly sizeable puddle of diesel underneath the rear fuel tank. I took it into the nearest shop right away, hoping it was just the gasket around the drain plug in the tank. It had a rubber gasket there, which was strange since I thought it would probably be one of those copper ones. The mechanic drained the tank and tried to fit a metal gasket in, but it wouldn't seal. Turns out the area around the plug was very warped. That turned out to be due to the bottom of the tank being corroded. Finding a tank (by this time the mechanic had already dropped the tank off the Deli) turned out to be a little tricky until MARDY made the earth move and sent me up a tank off his parts vehicle- even though that now leaves him tankless if one of his customers needs one. THANK YOU VERY MUCH MARDYDELICA!!!! Anyhow, to simplify things, he left his sender, tank gauge thingy, and all seals intact on the tank he sent me so that the mechanic here would just have to swap the complete unit over to make it easier on them. In return he simply asked me to send the old ones off my original tank (minus the tank) back to him so he will still have those parts-- which I am gladly doing first thing in the morning. He was a little apprehensive about doing this though, because he did a similar favour for someone involving some other part of the fuel delivery system (fuel injector I think?)... but he is STILL WAITING for the uneeded parts to be returned to him, as promised, from the person he helped. So, if that is YOU: Please send Mardy back his equipment!!! He is a very valuable resource and a totally great guy to everyone on this forum, respect the favour he has done for you!
Anyhow, NOW our light blue over white '90 Exceed (square headlights) high roof with the BFG AT's is happily getting muddied up on the dirt (snow's going away fast!) roads around Kamloops. See you out there!

I'm not old enough to know what a "Spoolmak" is... luckily I work with some guys that are

...
There are at least 3 Delicites that I know personally, and I've seen at least 3 others that are "un-accounted for", as well as conversing with another on this site that I've never met. I just saw a white low-roof with a busted left headlight yesterday, another one I'd not seen before!
If anyone reading this IS from Kamloops- drop me a line- there's a couple of us discussing the how-to's of starting a WVO Co-op here.
And thank you, Mararmeisto, for the welcome, and please do look me up!
