A Delica love at first sight...

Hi all!

I saw a couple of days ago a Delica boosting up another car, in the first days of freeze back here in Montreal. I just couldn't take my eyes off of it!

Since it was the first time I saw one, I was wondering if Mitsubishi was manufacturing a new type of truck, and a visit to the company's official site proved me wrong. A couple minutes of Google Image Search helped me find the thing, and now I found you :) !

My girlfriend and I were looking for a year-round truck that could seat confortably our four children and help us bring my girlfriend's paintings to her gallery. We currently own a 1976 VW Bus which is quite... lame in regards of winter heating...

We've always hated the american minivans as they lack in personality... and as one might say, "personality goes a long way" :D

So I'm currently going through BC dealers that seem to be specialized in Japanese imports. Also saw JDM which has a branch back here in Montreal. I will read silently this forum to help me be more familiar and hope to have my P35W somewhere this summer or next fall.

Regards,

Hey there and welcome! I've been wondering when we'd get a delicatessen! I hear ya about theat first time attraction. Same thing happened to us and we've never looked back! Used to have a 71 VW bus with no heat either. Did have a gas heater though, so I ran a flexible drier vent hose to the front for defrosting and comfort. I had a friend with the same bus who styrofoamed the cab area off from the rest and did the same thing with his gas heater. And hey, don't feel you need to remain silent on the forum just because you don't have a delica ...yet. Lots of others participate for months before actually piloting their own deli-bus! Happy hunting :M :-D

Welcome to the club...err - cult...well, as my family likes to call it. None of them share my obsession it seems - but under the veneer of cynicism they throw my way is truly a deep appreciation of these machines, they are simply in denial. My daughter even asked if we could take the deli on a summer holiday in 08' instead of our Sienna - she quickly recanted when she noticed the subtle shock in my face - but I later found out it was because of the captain chair comfort allowing her to sleep fully reclined over long distances. Then there is my mother - who wants me to take her for drives in the snow - says she feels as if she's going for a sleigh ride. My son loves all the various reading lights that are unobtrusive and allow me drive while he reads even in the dark of night - even in the front passenger seat if necessary. My wife is just happy that I'm happy...but I've yet to take her out 4 wheeling - i think that might hook her on replacing the Sienna with a Quad Cab pick up deli!!!!!!!

The list of attributes is so long, reasonable fuel economy, excellent road manners, reasonable highway speeds, true 4WD with one hell of a torqey little inline 4 cyl diesel - great 4x4 motore, excellent seating (more so for the passengers), highly configurable seating options, cavernous space, great ground clearance, mechanically quite simple, there just isn't an alternative offering the same range of "things I want" at a comparable price. I have had mine now for about 20 months - and continue to surprise myself with how fond I remain with this vehicle. I've had my fair share of problems related to being 15 years old - but nothing significant and never anything to doubt the quality of the vehicle overall. I've taken care of all the major issues - have a few minor ones to deal with - and will do the maintenance required....and predict I will be in this deli for some time to come.

So you can see by my long rant....the fetish runs deep! I'm not sure of my own attraction from an aesthetic point of view - and gave up questioning that one along time ago

So...welcome again!

Wonder if it was my brother you saw, was it a white one with roof windows? There should be 2 or 3 now in Montreal, as it becomes more popular than it gets easier for resources as well.

So don't hesitate too long, these trucks are great! If you'd like to see one in person I can try to hook you up with little brother... he's just N-E of Plateau Mt-Royal.

Cheers,
David

Well that means he's my neighbor :) ! Since I must have looked at hundreds of Delicas since I saw [maybe] your brother's, I don't remember if it was a white or a dark blue one. I'd point to the latter, though... But when I saw it, I was walking in the neighborhood, so it could be him...
