Hi from Detroit

Post by rlsimpso »

Just a bit north of it actually, Ferndale.

I've been on the mdocuk forum for a while, and somehow only found this a few weeks ago. It is nice to see these vans are on this side of the pond.

I've got a 1989 US spec 2wd lhd petrol with 206,000 miles and counting. It's not a daily driver any more, so the count is going up very slowly.

Hopefully some of you can shed some light on importing JDM spec model to the states.

Anyone here from Royal Oak? I've seen a nice one driving around there and i'm jealous :P cause it looks like it has 1/3 the milage of mine.

Welcome to the forum rlsimpso -- we're glad you found us!

I must admit, I was not aware that that a US version of the Delica even existed (we learn something new every day!)

If its not too much trouble, would you mind posting a picture or two (Bruce has provided excellent instructions on how to post photos at This Thread?

Cheers!

It was sold as a Van and a Van/Wagon. All where RWD 2.4 gasoline, 4 speed auto with the low roof. The van had no side glass, or carpets, to be used a work vehicle. The Van/Wagon came as an RS or LS. RS had steel wheel, fixed seats, no moonroof, I think crank windows. LS has allow wheels, power everything, captains chairs, cruise, moonroof, etc. I think the LS is close to the SuperExceed.

Here she is in upstate New York a few years ago in December. I am glad I put synthetic oil in it. I was negative digit cold the entire time.

I've got to find some good ones to post.

I have an original brochure too. I'll scan it when I get a change.

Thanks for the photos! It's unmistakably a Delica with a pronounced bumper instead of bull-bars -- Nice ride! :D

We may have the 2 sliding doors but we don't have the Super Exceed Crystal Roof Deluxe versions you all have, ours is just a 2 seater commercial van, hope you're feeling better now ?

It depends on how you look at it. It's on the right side, which is left, right?

OK thanks niekt, I do feel better, but I can't stop having dreams about driving a Delica in wooden shoes past a field full of Tulips and Windmills with the wind whipping through my hair from both sliding doors being open :D :P .

The "delica" was sold in the US as a vanwagon, but only as a 2wd gas vehicle, and not with all the toys we get on the delica...
Hopefully some of you can shed some light on importing JDM spec model to the states.
unfortunately the answer is you can't.... not until the vehicle is 25 years old... (And some civil servants up here want us to match that stupidity in Canada! :( )
