ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Hi All, Who can attend a meet-up this Friday evening, 28 August 2009, say 6pm to 9pm.

Burnaby/Coquitlam area, near the freeway. Not just delica, all nice drivers welcome. If you can attend, choices might include:

Fraser River Maquabeek Park, under the Port Mann Bridge (nearish Ikea Coquitlam or Princess auto). Bring your picnic dinner, huge parking lot, public toilet. Boat launch ramp to watch river tugs and log booms go by, and take a picture of your Deli nosing down into the water for a wallow.

Burnaby Lake, watch the birds and beavers etc (Anyone else have canoes or kayaks for others to play about in while some play about with vehicles).

Ikea Coquitlam, cheap food (coffee $1, hot dogs $.50, ice cream yoghurt $1), lotsa overheight parking, just off the freeway.

Or other ideas??? As always, out-of-towners most welcome and can stay over at our house if you're travelling through and can spare an evening to share stories and meet new friends.

Cheers, Christine and Jay.

Hey Christine and jay
I'm available on Friday and looking forward to hearing stories of the Van Isle meet. I'll look for pics on the forum too. I'll check out Macabeek (sp) this afternon as there may be construction there. There's only a dozen free pkg spots and the rest are boat/truck spots and pay only but many people using those free spots on a Friday evening.

Weather for Fri is cloudy hi 24 and lo 19 and Burnaby lake sounds good unless we stay till after dark. My first choice is Ikea or the west side of the Superstore parking lot just east of Ikea north side of the Lougheed Hwy. There's an AnW closeby and lots of room. Anyways just an idea. Your choice.

P.S I found a small, direct vent, free standing (no fan) propane heater for my delica. It's made by Coleman and looks like to be ideal. See it on Friday!!

Wayne :-D :-D

Hi Wayne Lazy Brown Fox,

Great, look forward to seeing your new stove heater, Fexlboi has been looking at used Webasto online in Germany (seems cheap).

We were at Maquabeek launch ramp Friday evening a couple weeks ago, they then started working late night, so it was OK in the early evening. But if you have time to check it out that would be great, see what work stage they are at now. I love Ikea for cinnamon buns, and Princess Auto for free coffee, but wanted to offer some alternative meeting spots in case others don't share my addiction.

Jay has installed a roll out awning on our roof racks, he will be displaying it.

Christine.

Ms Tardis Deli
All your choices are top notch. Macabek (sp) wasn't a problem at all, no ongoing work but may start later as you said. I'm curious what you two were doing at lovers lane so late???

Looking forward to seeing Jay's awning and hopefully fashion one for my beast (fox?)
take care
Wayne

Would have loved to been there. Can't make it as around that time I should be setting up camp at Porpoise Bay.
My choice would have been "Fraser River Maquabeek Park". Sounds tranquil.
Will be looking for some pics though.

We will be gone to Meager Creek HS on Friday night and I think it is not a bad place for a meet. :-)

profister is right, its awesome there. actually im headed there all this week (thats my patrol). lots of space to camp down the road and its only $5 dipping. watch out when ur driving in though, some body nailed the gate keeper and broke his femer the other day.
if you dont want to pay for a man made HS there is also keyhole natural hotsprings in that area. its about a 20 min hike in but iv heard its worth it.
on the triple bonus of that area you can see how awesome our forest fighters are as the whole top half of the valley is died red with retardant!

I'll likely be there too. It's always nice to see everyone, and I'm hoping to see some L400s again. I think I jumped off the fence on the L400 side after my latest road trip. I drove many hours on two lane highways and I got fed up with being at the front of the slow train on EVERY hill. I don't mind driving slow myself, but the constant line of cars behind me takes the fun out of it.

Anyway, I'll be there if it's in the neighborhood - sorry I can't go out of town this weekend.

P.S. I will have my speaker shelf for anyone who wants to see it.

I'll stop by if time allows and it's not too far away. You can see the work I did to repair and protect my bumper from rust, and how shortly after vandals promptly kicked some dents in the side of my van and broke my antenna.

Hi Christine,
Great idea, we still need mechanical tips (most likely we always will), but we are not able to come this Friday.
Love Maquabeek Park, though.
Maybe next time.

Hey Christine and Jay,

My name is Matt, i live in mission and I'm just new to the forum here - imported my deli myself with the help of a friend who was experienced. so thus i brought it in at cost.
so ive just been getting everything going and finally registered with the site. Ive been looking forward to it since i started looking for a van. i still have to post some pics tho - hoping to do it asap.

anyways i was really hoping to swing by the meet on fri but was wondering what the actual location that was decided on? That way i dont end up wandering around burnaby aimlessly :D

anyways let me know and am looking forward to meeting you guys and a few others.

take care and hope to hear from you soon

Matt,

I think we're going to to the Friday night "Trolls Under Bridge" location. west end of the Mary Hill Bypass, and I think you turn left heading for the Casino, and make your first left.

Cheers
Gregg

Hi Everyone, The meetup WILL be at IKEA Coquitlam. 6 to 9pm.

Freeway exit is Brunette Northbound, it curves around, follow the exit and the road as it curves back to IKEA. The same parking area as the previous meet, outside, nearest the highway and the entrance escalator.

Bring your folding chairs to sit and chat in, and some munchies to share.
Cheers, Christine.

PS Patty: you're welcome to stay over at our house if you're too tired to drive home.
PS Matt Curran, look forward to meeting you, bring your questions.
PS Golf Cart, I love your "Trolls under the Bridge", maybe next time.
