Injection pump

I have just redone the seals in the Injection Pump ( yay no more leaky pump!).
I replaced the main seal from the top half of the pump, the o-ring from the throttle linkage and the copper washers from all of the banjo bolts.
This is a fairly easy procedure and there is a post somewhere with pictures on the UK site maybe.
The leaks were coming from the main seal and it was quite visibly folded when I removed it. I had a rebuild kit sent up to me from Action Injection in Naniamo(250.758.3221) Be sure to have you pump type and number when you call (Mine is Desiel Kiki Pump No 104640-8220). It cost $15.85 after tax.
Hope this may help someone.

i hope you did change all the o-ring & other gasket that was on the kit package. you always change all of them i mean overhaul & rebuild it.
not just shaft seal but all the seal & washer.if not it wont last long it will leak on the other parts.
hoping you do all change it.
Cheers :)

Andy,
Well that is encouraging! How did find out the pump model? Is it stamped somewhere that can be seen without taking the pump off or apart? (So I can get the seals before I start).
Cheers,
Peter.

Just had a quick look. I see a number on a sticker (easily visible) and what looks like a stamped number under the throttle linkage (need to remove linkage to see it clearly).
I've read the post on the UK site but it's still not entirely clear to me how to proceed. Did you just start disassembling from the top down while the pump was still in the van? Does the pump actually have to be removed to get at the main seal (which seems to be the culprit in most cases)?
Peter.

I have tried to find the picture version of these instructions but for the life of me I cannot.
These instructions here a pretty good though:
http://www.pocuk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11498
The number should be the one stamped on the pump around the area of the AC Idle up diaphram.
In response to mardydelica I can't say for sure but it seems from what I have read and my own experience that the top seal is epecially suseptible to leaking based on the old design. Mine was visibly folded in several locations. For this reason I felt somewhat confident that this fix, which I was capable of, would be an economic and hopefully long term fix for this problem. If not I have wasted $15.85 and a couple hours!

Hi, Andy,
I know you want the job to make easier & cheaper, but to tell you on my own experience its just a waste of time to change just the top part. my mechanic did it before but ended up to do the whole thing cause other part of the pump seal leak. so i have to re do it again. just a waste of time for me thru my experience. when you do it all change the seal ,o-ring & other you can guarantee for sure 100% its wont leak & last longer you wont waste your precious time.
Hope this help

For $15.85 and a bit of time I think it's worth a shot.

I am having the same dilemma. Fuel is leaking, either put in a rebuild pump for about $1400.00 of go for changing a gasket and see what happens?? Anyone else have recommendations?

1400 ?!?! where are getting it done ? NASA ?
Ignition pump complete rebuild/gaskets/rings should be in the $500-600 vacinity.

you mentioned ignition pump - I am referring to the fuel/injector pump unit. are we talking about the same thing?
The quote from Glenn at CCC was anywhere from $900-$1300 for the rebuild (depending on the condition of the pump)plus 4-5 hours labor.

Injection pump
I guess it would vary from place to place (labour rate) and what needs to be replaced.
+1k seems excessive

I guess that original post is more than a year old now. My pump is not leaking, so far so good! You do have to realize that this is a very sensitive part of your vehicle. You do not want foriegn object getting into you pump so if you do attempt this be very careful. I imagine that for some people $1000.00 is peace of mind in the sense that their is no risk involved but hey I am living on the edge and a cheap bastard to boot. I however accept no responsibilty if you wreck your vehicle!

Andy,
I'd say that was the best $15.85 you ever invested into your van hey? I would say thats as good of a result as you could ever expect. I love the yearly update... I look forward to next years and the years after! (say about 15 more years till the next change? or is that to much optimism? *grin*)
