Headlights

I know that a few people here have imported a Delica since the headlight issue. How has everyone gotten around the issue? Am I going to have any difficulty with the headlights if I import one?

Any feedback on this would be appretiated. I really would like a second Delica, my wife keeps taking off in mine.

Thanks, Josh.

Hi Josh,

From what I can tell, the Gov is cracking down on the imports and focusing in on the non conforming headlights. I was able to find a dealer in Richmond that has E code lights. A bit pricey at $400 a pair but it may be a necessity.

my Delica is in the shop right now waiting for inspection. The mechanic was getting hassled even for lights with the "E" marking. I think we've finally squared that away, so I should be good to go this next week. However, it seems as if every inspection involving a Delica will now be closely scrutinized.

It's been a stressful go of it here. The government will soon realize that they can't shut these imports down based on the headlights, so I would guess that they will look for a new tactic to snag people with.

I would advise everyone to be very careful here in the near future, and make sure you do your homework before forking out money. In the three months that passed between when I paid for my Delica and it got here, things changed a lot. It would be really unfortunate to have people bringing Delicas over and then not being able to register them.

oh yeah- I guess the original reason I responded to that post was to link to this post:

this has a link to headlamps coming from Germany, I believe, and I think David spent $275 total in the end.

I bought lights from Mark over at the DelicaClub forum in Australia and Delicashop.com. I paid $260 for the lights plus shipping, but then the duties were about $30, so I paid a bit more. Shipped in about two weeks.

my Deli is also awaiting inspection as I type this... we've gone with the german headlights, and we'll see within the next day or 2 if that works...

i don't know if this will help but the Delica I picked up from Coombs had North American lights wired in and mounted on the bush bar. It was a hokey job and it keeps blowing the highbeam fuse but it must have worked to get in. I am going to take the North American lights out now that I don't need them and the crappy fuse box job that wired the daytime running lights into the power window fuse. Anyways there is my two cents.

well... I'm still waiting to get my hands on my Delica... looking like I'll probably get it Wednesday... but in the mean time, it went in for provincial inspection, the importer gave the inspector the german headlights to fit, and the inspector asked why, he couldn't see any problem with the moulded ones that were on it... he even said they were "DOT" which would seem very odd indeed... so apparently, at least with some inspectors, this isn't as big a deal as we've been led to believe....

You need to have lights which reflect in the proper direction. Pardon the pun, but the number of JDMs driving around with the wrong lights, reflects poorly on our community. If you get in an accident, your lights will be noticed and will give the people wanting to stop JDM imports more reason with the public and the politicians. I suggest that everyone just bite the bullet and buy the correct head lights.
If you have been following IVOAC.COM, you will know that there is an important BC decision regarding the lenses of marker, signal and tail lights.
