Delicat's new ride! Nissan Safari

I know there's gonna be rotten tomatoes thrown at me for this but I simply couldn't resist! I couldn't bring myself to the look of the L400 so this is my new project...

A '93 Nissan Safari, 5spd, factory rear locker, 4.2 n/a diesel with a bunch of goodies. It's going to be my new long term project. I even had to sign a paper to my wife saying this one would be my last truck, ahhhhhh women! It was worth it!

I imported this truck directly from Japan, it's a grade 4/BB with 76,000km in amazing condition. It will be a challenge to do all the mods to come as it's a 24V system and there's not as much knowledge on this truck here. Veggie (wvo) kit coming in, lift, bypass oil filter, winch, camperizing, front bumper and sliders...

Servicing it has been a breeze, no timing belt or chain. No expensive L400 headlights (paid $45 for both!), only had to change all the fluids and belts although my belts were like new and the oil was still clean. Got to keep the old belts as spares... Even the tires were DOT! So no need to rush into buying new tires until I figure out my lift. Jay won't admit it but he's already got his fingers in there, Custom Made DRL!!! (Thanks Bro!)

Well, I realize this is not the place to discuss this too much in depth but since this forum has been like a family to me I couldn't just keep it away from you!

And yes, Mitsushi will go for sale but no rush, I still want to get her to a pristine condition before advertising...

Don't you dare think of leaving us out of the loop, keep us posted to all your mods on your new camping tractor! I drool over the Thai army Patrol's here, no pictures though - there normally seen traveling 150 kph on a closed highway! Once when one of the Princes was in town, I was sitting highway side waiting beside a friendly, entrance ramp blocking, BIB (boys in brown - Thai police officer), and three Nissan Patrol in army colors gunned it coming off the overpass. Definitely diesel, very very grrrr sounding, better sound then an American diesel, and they took off like you wouldn't believe.

Trying to remember the other three regular Delica.ca contributors that went Nissan heavy duty? One in Abby, one in the Okanagan (this is bad, I’ve met these people too, one has been to my house) - but well trying to jog my clouded memory, seen you’ve introduced your Canadian Safari on that forum. Don't forget us,!

Edit - Duh, ok remembered Paul on Gabe, the Breadman (super duper baker, and cool dude), he was one of the orginal BC Delica crew. See, he doesn't visit anymore.

Finally! The suspense is lifted! I heard scuttlebutt that you were changing horses midstream, but I'd not heard a word of what you were switching to. Now I see, and me likey!

It IS handy to have the 7" round headlights for quick/cheap changing, but that 24vdc setup is going to be the bane of your improvements. Not unless you're going to load it up with a bunch of military-grade equipment (NATO standard amongst allies).

And no David, we don't hate you, but you will have to bring your own ball to play with from now on. There is/was somebody in the dockyard here who has/had a Safari, but I haven't seen it in a while so he may have gotten rid of it. Don't remember if he had the 24vdc system, but it definitely was a powerful diesel-engined vehicle.

I'm having fun reading all those replies and a bit surprised I haven't got more of a hard time, White Mule being the exception...all good bro! No need to explain all the why's but this truck should suit my lifestyle quite nicely, would be nice to keep both trucks though!

I like Christine's thinking... Paul, any chances you could befriend some NATO mechanics on your outings?

I'll keep in mind Bikepoor's experience with the other half, could come handy down the road! And of course Christine you can take it for a spin although I'm sure you'll still prefer your Delica which suits you very nicely, you just need to add some twigg's snippers at the front and it'll be perfect!!!

I'd doubt she'd do 150km/h as it is, but she seems to love cruising anywhere between 90 to 110. Once I start the mods with turbo and all she'll have a lot more grunt but for now I'll enjoy it as it is for a while so that I get a good baseline in it's stock configuration. If no one objects I might post the mods as I go along...

Hey, at least the steering wheel is still on the right side and not on the wrong side!
