Mitsubishi Van Transmission mounting problem

MODERATOR: This is a transmission mounting issue for an U.S. sold 1988 Mitsubishi Van
I’m really glad I found this forum, there seems to be dearth of good information on these vehicles.
Here’s my problem: I have a 1988 Mitsubishi Van RWD, Automatic. The engine that was in it was the factory “wide block” 2.4 L, it was either a G64B or a 4G64B -- whatever was original was.
Anyhoo, I bought and rebuilt a 4G64B engine, put the intake on it and got ready to bolt up the tranny and guess what? It didn’t line up! I had already gotten rid of the original motor so I literally had to abandon the vehicle -- new motor and all.
Since then, I’ve done a little research and found that my van came with what I’m going to call the ‘wide block’ and other 2.4 L engines (Galant, Expo, etc.) had a narrow block. I have been told that I can obtain 2.0L Mitsubishi truck bell-housing and it will mate the current tranny from the van up to a narrow block motor.
It makes sense but I haven’t been able to obtain the narrower bell housing yet so I can’t verify it. I’m wondering does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?
