Re: Fender flares and right side black mirror

Well, when you are at the car wash and smash the brush into the side mirror with great force, it tends to break. Who would know?! Glass is so fragile!

Thanks for the info Mark!

Fender flares and right side black mirror

Looking for a set of fender flares to fit my '89 l300 and a right side black exterior mirror.
Also, are there extensions for the rear slider to accomodate larger tires?

Re: Bushbar rust and repainting

I agree with the powder coating method. They sandblasted all the paint and rust off mine and put on a great flat black with a little rough texture. Should outlast the rest of the van. Cost was $140, but I didn't lose an entire Saturday!

Re: Legal to drive with no Bullbars?

I drove around without bullbars for weeks while I had them powder-coated flat black. I felt naked... and so vulnerable (sniff)!

They just don't look the same without dem bars! And man, they look wicked now! Hopefully they will never rust again!

Is this normal wear?

I replaced the stock front shock absorbers about three years (60 K) ago. Lately I noticed a worsening 'clunk' on the passenger side ecspecially when that that side was unloaded. I have been chasing that clunk without success. Wheel bearings, sway bar bushings, torsion bars, steering rack etc. etc. a...

Re: Blow me!

In the process of removing the turbo for inspection I found that it spun freely after I removed the fresh air intake. So much for my theory of it being seized! Decided to continue with the removal regardless since it wasn't spooling up during operation and in the process found that the waste gate li...

I am in need of a used turbo (in fantastic condition of course!).

Is there anyone with one available?

Thanks,
Tom

Re: Reverse Beeper

My 89 has no beeper inside the cab but one mounted under the rear bumper. People ask me why I don't disable it, but I figure better safe than sorry. The vis out the back of the van is not spectacular and I have two kids shorter than the rear window. When it gets wet outside the beeping turns to a st...

Re: pooched cam

New (used) cam in and what a difference! It's amazing what you get used to in terms of engine noise. Thanks to Glen at CCA for digging up a sweet replacement for me. Nice shop and a good bunch of guys. I must say that the cam that I got from Glen is much cleaner as far as the casting goes. My old ca...

Re: pooched cam

Hey guys, By digging in to look at the cam do you need to replace your valve cover gaskets? Or can the cover be opened and the gasket reused? Steve It's a rubber gasket. Replacing it is a good idea if it hasn't been done in a while, but I would expect that you could have a peek without problems. No...

Re: pooched cam

The reported history of the van was that it sat for long periods of time in it's earlier overseas life. Maybe this lead to some corrosion/pitting of the hardened surface of the cam which eventually broke down over time. Either way, I am heading to see Glen at CCA as I am located on the Island and he...

pooched cam

The van has been slowly developing a 'clacking' that I had attributed to tappets. Last week I adjusted the valve clearances and it did nothing, much to my disappointment. So, I thought that maybe I did a lousy job at it and decided to re-check my work. The clearances were good. Hmmm. The sound was d...

Re: Driving by braille

Problem solved. It's amazing how consulting the wiring diagram can help solve electrical problems (duh!). After fiddlling with the connections at the fuse panel for a couple of nights, I went to the Wiki site and looked at the PDF of the wiring. There was a common power supply that was effecting the...
