I wonder why auto manufacturers are not using this if the benefits are so great. Seems to me like GM or Ford or Chrysler would be happy to have their engines produce more HP and last longer with something this easy to add on..

Ah HA! That would answer the question about electrolysis usually needing salt water or some like fluid to occur. Wire brush it to clean it up, stop the leak and hopefully you will be ok from now on.

Looks like some sort of electrolysis like on the back of a boat if the zincs wear out. Caused by different metals in contact with each other creating a battery effect, but usually in salt water...
