4M40 Issue/Spacegear/Challenger

Post by dah_hunter »

So today started like every other day. Roll out of bed before 5am, made lunch and flopped into my Truck for the drive to work..

However today my truck decided to have a bad day.

Issue: When you give the truck any gas, you can hear a strange sound. The sound is like air/water sputtering out of a small hose of some kind. Then after a couple minute of driving, the Check engine light flashed on. Truck revv's fine just makes this sound along with the normal diesel sounds, however it feels like it has lost a bit of power.

At this point, i was already on the highway, so i kept driving the 25 minutes to my office and parked.. i haven't looked at it yet, to dark out, and well i had to work.

Anyways.. in 8 hours i will check it out more.

What year of space gear? It's quite reminiscent of my problem a bit ago. A vacuum hose popped off.

Sounds like the EGR bypass valve. Under load it pops farts and bogs down yes?

The quick parking lot fix is to disconnect and plug the vacuum hose that actuates the EGR with a small bolt/screw. There is a blanking plate that you can install between the intake and the valve that effectively isolates the EGR.

The red outlines the valve and vacuum line to remove and block.
The blue outlines the gasket and optional blanking plate......funny that Mitsubishi offers a way to defeat the EGR right from the factory! You can either buy the plate from ebay or make one out of sheet metal yourself.

I was thinking about the EGR, however it doesn't fart or bog down really.. just feels a bit under powered..

I will see about hunting down those vaccum hoses when i get off work.

Came off where the camo tape is.

Some of the sensors don't have barbs to retain the hoses. I just taped it on lol. Mine was the hose going from the Manifold filter to the sensor.
