Steps for aligning Timing

What are the steps for aligning the timing on a Mitsubishi Delica (93'). I'm stuck in a mountain pass and will have to do it myself with the extra hands and wrenches of a friend and would like to get it aligned and tightened correctly to get me to richmond.

I'm not sure if it matters but I can't remember the exact model - it's a rare one I'm told, a longer body with sliding doors on both sides, and a city work version without 4x4 or turbo. Not 100% on the engine type either, but if you know either of these from what I've explained, I'm sure these things will be good for me to know as well

So you are re-using a belt that came loose or
jumped a tooth?

What fuel do you put in the engine? Do you have photo capabilities in your smart phone or however you are posting? Can you take a picture of the engine?

It's a diesel engine and I use a mix usually of veggie oil from VI Biodiesel coop and regular diesel.

The story achieved a great twist. Originally what had happened is the balancer went on the highway just outside of the hope and the balancer belt knocked the timing out of whack. I was towed to a great, very honest mechanic in Hope (Lyle I believe his name was at Hope Brake and Muffler) where we trouble shot with Butch from CVI and the guys at Coombs to figure what the problem was, then fix it.
Everyone was pretty confident I could continue on my trip without the balancer (the timing belt seems to be in great shape), so I continued on only to have the timing go off not far from Princeton. Me and a couple family members went back up with tools yesterday to get everything sorted - only to find after dropping a socket in and looking with a flashlight, that there are ball bearings all over the place in there.
So we're looking to get it to CVI in richmond, I think on a car trailer behind my uncles pickup (towing with BCAA+ would still amount to around $350 just in surcharges for the distance).

Hey,
CVI guys will sort it out for you for sure.
If the timing just started going out and you
stopped, you may be a very very lucky Delica
owner and avoided a much more costly repair!

The guys at CVI were a great help. I ended up getting a whole wack more done; all the belts replaced, a new rocker arm, a new pump I believe? expensive but it was now or later.
