hi
occasionally my oil pressure light comes on. the first time was when i was climbing a volcano. i immediately checked everything and all was fine. ive gone several thousand kms since then. it fades on then off again right away. maybe related: sometimes when the engine is cold, i need to give more throttle then usual to get power. the rpms rise, but the vehicle moves slowly, but only for a moment.

On the topic of Oil Pressure lights:
I am on a very long tour across Canada and we are just gearing up to drive into the Kootenay Mountains so I wanted to ask about my oil pressure light. This has never happened before with my Gas powered, standard transmission 1993 Delica. When I push the clutch in to bring the engine to an idle the oil light comes on. I pulled over several times to check the oil level and it seems perfectly fine. When I bring the RPMs above about 500 rotations per minute the light turns off. Any suggestions?
THANK YOU!
Stu
P.S. Is there a way I can get a Delica.ca decal in Victoria without having an address?

Sounds like the same problem, check your oil pressure switch.Della-Kat wrote:On the topic of Oil Pressure lights:

When I changed my oil pressure switch for an oil pressure gauge in my old 4Runner, the gauge would not move at all at idle, and I freaked out. Turned out that the wrecked sensor I put in just did not register at low RPMS, so the gauge was extremely low, as soon as RPMs went up, Gauge read properly.
Odds are your pressure sensor is going or needs to be checked.

Re: oil pressure light
Since you are going on a long distance trek you should have someone at least check with a quality gauge what your oil pressure actually is. Better safe than sorry. Idle oil pressure is always lower than oil pressure at cruising rpms so the fact that the light goes out while driving can mean the switch is functioning exactly as it should and you are experiencing low oil pressure at idle.. Also the oil level isn't really related to oil pressure so that the oil is full does not exclude a low oil pressure situation.
Do you know what weight of oil is in your Delica? Thinner oils give lower oil pressure than thicker oils. And as the engine wears and tolerances get bigger this becomes more pronounced. If you were running 5w40 for the winter maybe its time to switch back to 15w40.
Good luck and good trip.
