catalytic converters?

Post by fluidryder »

hey all, I have a question I was hoping someone could help me with. My Delica failed its inspection upon arrival with a few obvious and easy fixes such as the brakes and tires, but the inspector also said the catalytic converter was missing. From what I have heard, the 4X4 diesel delicas do not require a catalytic converter, does anyone know anything about this topic?
I have just imported a 1990 super exceed.
Thanks for any help

Tell him to look at the emission label under the passenger front seat. EGR is the only emission component I have ever seen listed(unless it is a 5spd, then they dont even have that), there is no cats. Find a smarter inspector if he is failing you for that.

If new diesel car & truck, they put catalytic converter but older vehicle diesel engine dont need, your inspector should check on this.

Diesels don't have CAT in general, in USA all diesel car will have CAT starting 2007. Gas engine will not CAT either for cars coming from Japan unless it was equipped originally. We have passed many gasoline vehicle inspection for Japanese import without CAT, suzuki carry is a recent example. You can ask your inspector to speak with Brain Kangas, he will explain it to the inspector.
