We were hoping to pickup and register our van with ICBC on Saturday ... but I'm hearing that it can only be done on week days. Is this true? Is there anyway to do it on Saturday?
Can anyone recommend a knowledgeable insurance agent in Richmond, near Maximum Overdrive?
Thanks,
-- Joel

Re: Weekend Registration - Is it Possible?
Canadian Superstore (at least the North Vancouver location) has an ICBC insurance department open 7 days per week, 9:00AM to 9:00PM (I transferred a car to someone else last Saturday)...

Re: Weekend Registration - Is it Possible?
OK, but I've read that specifically to register a Delica, the autobroker needs to contact ICBC head office or something, and they are only open Monday to Friday.
But if someone out there has managed to register on a Saturday, please let me know.

Re: Weekend Registration - Is it Possible?
Hi Joel,
Yes there is a component that needs doing on weekdays as they must talk to a person to get a computer override. I am not the expert, but a woman named Silk who does mobile ICBC for many of the dealers is. I have her business card somewhere, she is based out of a Kerrisdale ICBC insurance agency, but I have bumped into her a couple times at Annacis Island. Very friendly and totally knowledgeable about JDM vehicles, and great advice about what coverage levels you should get. Maybe someone has her phone number?
I think the actual first registration which is done by the importer of the vehicle is the weekday concern, your personal ICBC can be done anytime. The Registration override was needed as the Japanese VIN is shorter than the Canadian computer requires, and something about an override for the AirCare (not needed until renewal next year I think).
And as Silk also had done the importers Registration, it was easier for her to do my insurance part, as she already knew what to say/do to get my coverage done on a Saturday.
And FYI the entire ICBC coverage was much cheaper than the private insurance I was quoted by VanCity (even with the 5% discount from Vancity as they insure my home and previous car). Silk also recommends the windshield coverage as she knows how much the Delica windshield costs, etc.
I'll look for her card today. Cheers Christine of the TardisDeli.

does she now? from what I gather, a Delica windshield isn't all that much more expensive than a regular one, and even in Alberta (rock-chip central) I've never seen windshield coverage that made any form of sense, in the long run that one is almost always cheaper to "self insure" (can you make a windshield last 3-4 years? I know I can!)Silk also recommends the windshield coverage as she knows how much the Delica windshield costs, etc.

Re: Weekend Registration - Is it Possible?
Be lucky to get a year out of a windshield up here in Northern BC, insurance is worth while, considering most Delica windshields advertised are at least $400. By contrast the windshield on my old 96 Nissan Truck was only $150. A week after putting in my E-codes, I had a rock chip, and that was in summer!! Gravel (they call it sand, but we know better) on the roads, logging trucks, and lots of other truck traffic. Alberta doesn't compare - from a former Albertan.

Re: Weekend Registration - Is it Possible?
I am guessing it is to late now to offer my two cents... but you can do it on saturday. I just imported one and had it registered on saturday. It is through a specific branch, I cant tell you details about it except that they helped me out with it at sussex inchurance. It was a good thing I was able to do it on saturday, because all day friday it seemed like ICBC and I just could not see eye to eye on almost any of the paperwork! Got it done, and am back in smithers now though.jskrepnek wrote:We were hoping to pickup and register our van with ICBC on Saturday ... but I'm hearing that it can only be done on week days.
