Painting Advice

Post by robinimpey »

Pulling apart the front of my Delica so it can be repainted. Lots of rock chips and rust forming on the bumper and bull bars. What should I do to this pug nosed beast to keep it from getting all chippped up again? I have thought of doing rock gaurd on the bumper and then painting over it. Have also considered clear protective film after repainting, but not sure how complicated that is to do. Have also considered that it's 21 years old and if the front is repainted it will probably be good for the rest of the van's life.

Thoughts?

This is the stuff I am looking at.

Tough stuff and you can get it pre-tinted. Also, it is made to be rolled on.

I have a little rust around a wheel well, a few spots on the roof and the same rock chips on the front. Plan is to clean it all up, hit it with rust inhibitor, then roll the front/top in black and the bottom in Light Quartz Grey. I ordered some paint chips and the grey matches my bus almost perfectly (two tone grey L300).
