Push to Ban Right Hand Drives Now Making It's Way to Alberta

Post by CREGAN »

Now I cannot speak %100 to the validity of this but I have just found out from a mechanic friend that manages a shop in Edmonton that RHD vehicles are going to become extinct in Alberta. He hob-knobs with big wigs golfing and generally just manages the shop instead of being a mechanic anymore but he was chatting with someone from the office of Alberta Transportation and he said that in 2013 they will not be allowing RHD vehicles to be registered in Alberta. He did not know if they will still be allowing already registered vehicles to be re-registered, but this is what he heard. I am hoping this is just another rumour and does not come to fruition. Why are people so retarded about RHD? I get the safety thing with some RHD vehicles- eg. some of the super powered racers in the hands of young inexperienced drivers. But what about drivers with many years experience and vehicles like ours? I know I won't be winning any speed races in my van, unless there is an off-road portion :-) . Anyways, just thought I would pass this on and hopefully spark some debate as well as start to formulate a game plan.

It's one guy in Alberta transportation named Ken Robinson that has it out for RHD for some reason ( closed minded red neck ? ). He has been trying to scare shops into not doing OOP inspections on them for years now sighting safety concerns. As this thread indicates, he's still spreading propaganda around. I do believe that's all it is being rumors and trying to get people scared into buying / owning them.

Here'e the guys information if anyone wants call and see what his issues are. I would hope the more people letting him know we have a right to own and operate our vehicles without bias, might sway his lips from flapping more in the future.

I have had many dealing with him in the past, although none in person. He has been at this for well over 5 years time to my knowledge.
