6-week Delica Honeymoon Road Trip - suggestions?

Post by naterade »

Hey folks

My wife-to-be and I will be taking our Delica on a 6-week honeymoon road trip starting end of July, we have the west coast in our sights to start, followed by some time in Chelan, WA, and then down to Beloved Music Festival in Oregon. From there, we are unsure, but we'd love to spend lots of time camping in beautiful places. I think we'll go see Northern California, and then may head down to Sedona, AZ.

Does anyone have any suggestions for places to see, places to camp at, etc?

Cheers
Nate

That might be a little further east than they were thinking.

South, check out the red cedar giants in northern California. San Francisco is a wonderful city as well, and it's not too far south. Given that you're taking six weeks though, you may as well go all the way to the Mexican border: Salton Sea, Joshua Tree, come northward between the Cascades and the Rockies.

6 weeks . . . the baha peninsula is pretty amazing, and once you pass Tijuana it's not scary.

Thanks guys!

We were down in San Jose del Cabo in February, so I think we'll look for some new places to see :)

We will definitely see the redwoods and cedars in California - that's the main reason I want to go there  The wife is curious about San Fran too

If we go to Sedona for sure I want to see Utah and the Grand Canyon.

Yellowstone is a good idea too.

And then there's this little piece of heaven called British Columbia I hope to spend some time in too.... probably towards the end of our journey

If you pass through the Okanagan and like wine and are planning a day of touring and tasting let me know and I can point you where to go and where to avoid.

There's a very nice campsite in Florence Oregon, San Fransisco and Santa Cruz are great cities. Also, the obvious parks; Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Zion, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands, Yellowstone are all amazing. You could do some neat offroading in Moab but I wouldn't recommend anything serious because I couldn't find a single mechanic there that was helpful. Also, if you're going through Death valley or Arizona the air is VERY hot and dry so you'll notice the water temperature gauge will climb to 'H' extremely easily so get ready for some slow drives with no A/C (you can keep the A/C on but it slows you down considerable). I'm by no means saying that you shouldn't go because I had a great time in Arizona but leave yourself extra time for the drives eg) if my GPS told me I had a 5 hour drive it would take 8-9 in reality.

South end of Oregon, you get into the Dunes. Not sure if anyone can drive on them, but you can definitely rent dune buggies. Very much worth doing.

Definitely get into the redwoods. Literally the Forest Moon of Endor.

Yosemite is a beautiful place, and the drive there is great too...

Good luck with your trip!

All you need is an ATV permit (good for a year) and a flag and you can head out on the dunes yourself.

Maritimes! Nova Scotia! Don't skip Quebec City or Montreal, language is really not an issue and they are amazing cities. Ottawa is a decent day trip as well, especially if you explore the rural area on the north side of the river which is one of my favorite places in the world. New Brunswick is way underrated; the people are amazing.

Travel via the US, use the more southern route through the 'otas. Check out Bighorn.

Skip around Chicago. Do not even approach the freeway there. Just go wide.

Plan your route around campgrounds and try to put down camp before sunset most nights.

I did all this in six weeks and I had done most of it before but it was still amazing. I wish I had way more time in Nova Scotia...

Rich, great suggestion, but I don't know if we'll make it to the east coast. I don't want to be driving the whole trip. I'm hoping we can find some sweet campgrounds on the west coast or in Northern Cali or AZ and stay put for a few days at a time to relax and enjoy.

We had thought about an east coast trip, but I think that one may have to wait for next year :-D

When I read the title I thought you were going on a trip to celebrate your first 6 weeks with the Delica...

Well that would certainly be a reason to celebrate :-D But I've had my Delica almost 2 years now.
