CV Boots and leaking brake fluid

Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

CV Boots and leaking brake fluid

Post by minicarz »

Well I had to abort a greatly anticipated summit attempt of Mount Baldy up near Little Fort on Saturday. Half way up while stopped at an abandoned mine adit I noticed the brakes were mushy, and then upon closer examination saw the leaking brake fluid and also a torn inner CV boot(not related) . So had to head down .
Anyway my questions to the group are these:

1) The CV boots for my 94 L400 are the same as the 95 Mitsi Montero 3.5 L, from what I can glean from the posts. Is this correct?

2) The brake fluid leak so far is eluding me. I can't see where it is coming from . It is dripping down in the centre behind the motor and coming off the cross member there. Does anyone have an idea where it could be coming from ?

2) Is there a separate reservoir for the ABS, as the master reservoir level is not going down and a significant volume of brake fluid has thus far been spewed out ?

The CV issue is easy once I can confirm the replacement type , but this brake issue has me perplexed as you can't fix it when you can't see it or know what's broken.
Thanks everyone
Neale

Hi Neale,

How sure are you that the fluid in question is brake fluid?

The fluid in question feels and smells like brake fluid . That in conjunction with the mushy brake pedal. If I hadn't seen the fluid spewing I would be thinking the master cylinder was gone.
thanks
