Torsion bar reindex - can it be done again?

Hi all

I wanted to try and minimize the "Japanese raked" looked from Blueberry. Currently, there is a 5" lift in rear, and 2.5" in the front. I figured that reindexing the t bars might even it out a bit.

When I peeled back the boots, I discovered indications that reindexing might have already been done (see green tape in photo).

My questions are: would you concur with my belief that it's been done previously? And if so, can i I do it "more"?

With your lift do you have balljoint spacers, different control arms or is your lift strickly torsion bars reindexed. If the later I would say you need to look into a proper lift kit for the front end and not just index them more.

Re index? Do you mean return to stock height? If that's the case might be able to find alignment specks that display ride height and you could back of the torsion bar until the OE height is restored... Sorry if I misunderstand the question

Sorry for any lack of clarity- I'd like to give the front MORE lift (2 clicks of the tbar).

It looks like Something has already been adjusted judging by the tape. So I wonder if I can adjust it further.

Yes, the current lift is with 2" frame and ball joint spacers. I didnt expect to see any evidence of torsion bar lift, thats why the tape threw me for a loop

Then they were most likely moved to accommodate the lift. I think it would alright but you woulg need to get the front end realigned and make sure all your steering is able to work with that much lift. You might need different steering components.

Take it to Dale's Alignment in Langley.

They will sort it out. They specialize in modified/lifted vehicles and have the experience, knowledge and tooling to set your rig up correctly.

There is no other shop in the lower mainland that has their expertise combined.

Thanks guys. I will take it out there. I was keen to do it myself, but all things considered best to get it done by pros.

Glad you are taking it to the pros, it will throw off the front end alignment so much you'll need to take it somewhere anyway!

Dales doesn't do the reindexing. They send you to another shop and you may need an appointment first. Phone Dale's before you drive to Langley.

Dales does the alignment after the reindexing. Ask them to check your entire front end for any worn parts.

It's actually quite easy to do the reindexing. You can only turn the shaft 2 directions. If you're wrong turn it back the other way. Do a "search" for instructions.

I managed to reindex the t-bars last night. Driver side was easy peasy. Passenger, not so much.

On my L400, the fuel tank really gets in the way of removing the adjusting section. I bashed around under there dor over an hour. Frantic call was made, as I was in a bit of a flap, but after some some serious internal debate, I removed the front end bolts near the control arm. After that, it was relatively easy.

I only did 1-spline as I couldn't get the adjusting but back on. No matter as it seems to have lifted the front up about an 1".

The van still has a ridiculous lift, but at least it's not trying to pass itself off as a dragster anymore.
