noticed there are two 4x4 dash lights

the sun hit my dash just right today and caused me to notice that there are two 4x4 indicator lights on the dash. One is the usual green "wheel lock" light and right below it is a light that appears to be four tires and a differential. I've never seen this light come on, is it supposed to?

Yes. That light should come on when in 4x4 H or L - as soon as you put the gear selector forward out of 2H - then roll a few feet and the wheel lock light comes on next. You probably have a broken wire down near the transfer case as was the case with mine. I found my break as soon as I rolled under the deli near the transfer case - a simple connector and all fixed - I picked up heat shrink wrap to put on, but didn't get around to it prior to the Monsoons of Vancouver.....There is a bunch of wires bundled near the transfer case so that's the first place to look. I'm pretty sure you are in 4x4 though as I've seen your photos and you would have noticed if you were not based on the places you've put your deli!!!! Good luck and keep up the great work with photos & maps. My kids keep me from making the journey's you have so far - but I'm enjoying your updates all the same!

Hello, the 4wheel light comes on when your transfer case in engaged in 4 wheel drive. The wire connection fail commonly where in enters the Tcase, if you do a seach here (or UK/Aussie sites) you should even be able to find pictures. Think it's on the drivers side of the Tcase, looked fine on her Deli but felt broken inside the shielding.

ah good to know this isn't major or uncommon. I'll take a look at the wires and connectors next time I'm under there :)
