You're getting even more tn my expected $8000. Now that these numbers are public take that offer and run, it's a good one and you don't want ICBC to change their minds.

That said you will be losing $3000 over 3 years so if you can part it out for more than $400 or of you fix it and expect it will be worth more than $5400 plus the cost of parts and labour then you may want to hang onto it still.

Out of curiosity, what is actually wrong with the vehicle? In the picture she looks pretty good. Just because you've scratched the paint or dented the fender doesn't mean you have to write your wagon off. What is the reason for writing the vehicle off?

x2

They have no evidence that these vehicles are more dangerous than LHD.
As a business model, writing off slightly damaged vehicles because of an unsubstantiated vendetta against RHDs is asinine.
ICBC is supposed to be an insurer, not the DOT.

Not to mention, writing off RHD vehicles does nothing at all to stem the flow of imports.

What do you expect with this guy at the helm?

I'm not exactly sure what the point of them writing it off is. I spoke with the gentleman in charge of the icbc salvage yard and he said it will most likely just be sold to a garage as a parts truck. I'm not sure if they intended on a profit for themselves after selling the parts van, but the offer they've made is quite substantial, so I will be taking it.

I would assume icbc is claiming it as a write off because of the amount of work it would take to make it new again, not just to make it drive-able. I'm not sure if there's a middle ground.

The only other thing left is to argue for a no-fault claim. As I mentioned before, icbc's default answer for a single-vehicle claim is at-fault for the driver, without circumstantial consideration. So I'm going down today to get the cheque and try to get that resolved in my favor. All in all it hasn't been the worst experience with icbc in the world.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, and hopefully I'll be back up here with another L300 in the near future!
