camper conversion

Post by ovsa »

hello , i am new to this site and not yet a Delica owner.

i would like to know which model of Delica (1996 and older, turbo diesel) would be best suited for converting to a camper w/ pop-up. i.e. most available room inside.

i have been looking a a few that are already camperized but they are few and far between here in western canada and about 6 to 8K more to buy than the standard model. So i am thinking i can probably do one myself, more to my liking but i am just not sure about the interior area of all the different models.

obviously i do not need one with all the skylights and I would like one with the pass- through from the cab to the back. A factory pop -up would be ideal but if not, I think i can find an aftermarket one if need be.

thanks for your advice

You're looking for a long wheelbase L400. Chances are you won't find one with a pop top and will have to do that yourself.

Agreed, the L400 long wheelbase will give you the most room inside.

I was also looking for a pop top when I first started looking at Delicas but quickly realized that it was not the way to go. There are a few pop tops in Vancouver but, like you said, they are more expensive and the ones that I looked at were not in very good condition at all (especially not for the ridiculous asking price)!
As far as I know, Mitsubishi never put out pop top Delicas; all the ones you see are aftermarket conversions.

I have an L400 Super Exceed. I am almost finished with my camper conversions and I am extremely happy with the route I have taken it. I used this as a model for mine: http://delica.rajce.idnes.cz/Interier

Good luck.
