can someone help with trick to installing drivers side glass

Post by snelson »

Hi guys,
My van was broken into a week ago, finally getting to install the glass tonight.
There are two 'rails' that the window lifting arms slide into, but I can't seem to get them to line up.
There must be some little trick I figure to get the arms of the lifter to slide into the 2 track fixed to the glass.
Has anyone done this before?
Please help
Thanks
Steve

I had the same issue and it took me hours in the pouring rain to finally figure it out. Now I'm sitting here trying to remember.......
Once the inside panel has been removed you need to slide off the broken windows piece which is attached to the slider. If I remember correctly this was the easy part. After wrestling with the new window and trying to slide it on I realized it would not work. So, I removed one of the bottom bolts of the slider mechanism so it was more forgiving. i believe I undid the right bolt as it was easier to get at. Once the bolt was out I was able to slide the glass on and put the bolt back in.

I really hope this didn't just confuse you more.

Good luck

Hi Pooch,
Thanks for this. That is exactly what I ended up doing. I actually removed both bolts on the right, and that allows the roller arm on the left to be moved quite easily into position so that you can get both arms into the tracks attached to the window.
I probably should have just tried that before posting, but had this vision of the arms and stuff inside the door dropping and being a real pain to get back together.
Once I removed those two screws, took maybe 5 mins to install the window! :-D

Just a side note, you also need to pry out the little rubber runner on the outside of the door by loosening the little plastic clips, being careful not to break them. This gives you the room to slide the glass with the metal runners attached into the door/glass frame.

Getting the inside door panel off was quite easy, but I'm very glad I bought one of those plastic rivet pullers that looks like a bent screw driver. i think I definintely would have damamged the particle board door liner trying to pull the liner out without the tool.
This was a great post showing how to do it.
