Aaaaaannnnnnddddd... 16.8L/100km on the last fill. I'll attribute that to horrible headwinds though. Still, that's more than double the mileage I get at home (granted that's without roof boxes). I've added some Lucas oil injector cleaner which improved my mileage immensely last time I tried it so I'm hoping it helps this time but I'll be battling prairie winds so it's probably not the best test.

If it's any consolation, my last 2 tanks have also been pretty horrible:

I find replacing the airfilter is the best treat for the L300, even if you look at the filter and say "heyyy there is still some patches that are clean", just change it. Cheers, Christine.

I'm using a K&N but am going to rotate it right now actually. 17.1 on that last stretch, let's see how it compares having rotated the filter (I'll do a proper clean ASAP)

This reduction in fuel ecconomy happens quite often to vehicles that have spent time in the maritime provinces. The injectors tend to get clogged with fish&chip batter and/or lobster. Tossing a few Tuna Rolls into the tank will clean that right up and return you to your proper west coast fuel ecconomy.

Thanks, I'll give that a try as soon as I find some lean tuna. :-D

Under the same conditions rotating the fuel filter got me down to 15.9 then adding 2-stroke oil got me down to 15. I'm hoping to see even better mileage once I stop battling headwinds.

Success! 1 squirt Lucas oil, 1/2 cap petrolabs, 333ml 2stroke oil = 12.5L/100km

Considering I have a lot on my roof, quite a bit of extra weight and am running winter diesel at 100km/hr for the most part with a tiny bit of city driving I'm very happy with this result!

EDIT: turns out my odometer reads at 90% of the actual distance so I actually got 11.3L/100km! :-)

Two-stroke magic strikes again!

Are you still battling comparable headwinds? If so, it'd be interesting if you tried a tankful under comparable conditions without the additives and see if your mileage craters again.

Or how about just one additive at a time so you can tell which is helping... 11/100 is spot on normal I reckon - good news!

I tried with similar conditions, first just petrolabs = 17L/100km, then petrolabs, lucas oil and roating air filter = 16L/100km, then petrolabs, lucas oil and 2 stroke oil = 15L/100km. This last time I had a bit more city driving than usual and a little less headwind but still not very favourable conditions = 11.3L/100km. I hope to see some excellent economy when I get home, remove the boxes, run regular fuel and drive under 80. I also just cleaned my air filter properly which should help even more. 11 I consider to be fantastic for me since a lot of L300 owners report similar economy under normal circumstances.

Unless you are still fueling up at the same station every time I wouldn't put too much value in any conclusions to the value of any additives based on single tank calculations.

Could be your last tank was at a station that was still serving up tasty and nutricious summer diesel for example. Could be on the last fill up you filled it up extra full. Coulds be you got lucky and drove into the remnant of a monsanto fuel improving chemtrail cloud... :?

Many variables ok man...but good news on the improvement whatever the cause.

True about the variables but I started each test at a Shell, I topped up the tank to the brim each time, each was using winterized diesel and I'm not into conspiracy theories. :-D

It's started...they're making you type "there" instead of "they're". Wait too long and your "you're" will become "your" :-D
Sorry, I had to!

Come to think of it, that sentence would still make sense in a different context if you put a comma after the "there"
