Re: 2.5" exhaust??
I have no qualms about straight piping. I'm wondering about "no piping". Just dumping the exhaust directly from the manifold under the van.

Re: 2.5" exhaust??
haha, maybe not the best for you, just wondering about it for myself actually. I want to put a ss stack running up the side of the van but knowing this will happen and wanting to replace my current rattling exhaust I figured this might be a good interm soloution!?

Re: 2.5" exhaust??
no pipe would be LOUD. my old Land cruiser snapped the pipe just past the manifold and was unbearable in the car. I also snapped the exhaust off my subaru at the manifold and was pulled over 3 times for noise within a couple of days. LOUD!!!
Just a heads up on that thought.

Re: 2.5" exhaust??
I'm still debating this one. I hate the current rattle but want to put on a ss exhaust. The problem is funding for this (I need to wait but am trying to figure out what to do in he interim).

Re: 2.5" exhaust??
why ss too much $$$$ for something that rots out every 15 years?
straight pipe is loud my van had it...turbo keeps the exhaust not as bad as open pipe on other motors
I would be concerned about exhaust entering the vehicle

Re: 2.5" exhaust??
Exhaust entering the vehicle is really my only concern. The noise won't bother me and if it bothers the police I just tell them I'm on my way to have it fixed. The problem is that mine has gone south within a year but I don't want to do a SS side pipe because then I'd have to worry about a rock hitting it while offroading. I'd rather send one up the side of the van (and I have a friend who will do the bending and welding much cheaper than an exhaust shop). I know it will get hot but I see stacks coming through the beds of pick-up trucks all the time without heat shields.

Re: 2.5" exhaust??
if it on the side it will need a heat shield...touch you current muffler. 900F is really hot...
not a big deal design it in....you will need a flex pipe to keep the turbo from breaking off the manifold...

Re: 2.5" exhaust??
Is a heat shield a requirement or a suggestion?
There doesn't appear to be a flex pipe on it now, why would I need one in the future?

Re: 2.5" exhaust??
if you mount the stack solid to the body (plus the pipe will be pushed back if you rubber mount it by the wind (assuming some downhill sections where the van hits speeds near 100km/h, I do not see a rubber mounted stack working due to gravity....in my opinion delicas should have a flex pipe in there anyhow).
You will need a heat shield...I once grabbed the stack on a Zamboni as I was falling off burned my hand good (better then falling on the ice from 8 feett and when I burnt it I was able to get ice on it fast :) ).
Find someone to water cut some stainless with company name logo or something and then space the heat shield a few cm from the main pipe it will look better too.
run the van and touch the pipe on it now
