Just bought 97 deli series 2, need help with cold/hot box
Just bought a 97 delica series 2, has a hot/cold box with the rear door missing, can anyone transllate for me what the front buttons mean, and can anyone tell me what was meant to be stored in the rear compartment- there's a strap joined together by velcro that's meant to hold something in there.

Who doesn't like a challenge?
I found a translater website that had all 858 characters listed but the Japanese language, according to the site stated there 214 Radicals (primary symbols) which narrowed the search.
The 2 character symbol below the 2 position switch translated to 'setsu sai' which means cut, mince, slice, carve. (weird as I thought it would mean OFF), but it could mean cut power so its probably OFF.
The character group next to the yellow LED.....so far the only symbol I could find was the sideways ”T” which translated into 'boku' meaning prophesy/fortune telling. I also found a very similar grouping of these 3 characters which also translated to CUT....(no wonder asian languages are so hard to grasp, they are near impossible to translate).
So congrats! You have a fortune telling ginsu box with no door....weird dude....really weird....
The right side switch is easier.
Left position means HEAT/HEATING
Center position ....need clear image...but it kinda looks like the CUT/OFF.
Right position is COOL/COOLING
Seriously though, heres the webpages I used.

My translator (Wife) confirms.
Right switch (LtoR) Warm/Off/Cold
Left switch:ポツト(translates to Pot) / Off
These characters are Katakana. Usually used for foreign words. So the question is what "pot"?
As for the first picture, knowing the safety conscious Japanese I'm thinking a fire extinguisher.

Pot and off.....Hmmmm
We have a hot water boiler from Japan that uses magnets and brass contacts for the power cord not unlike the interior photo you took of the box. Looking at the pic of the interior there are 2 metal contacts at the back wall. A quick voltage check between those 2 contacts would confirm my thoughts that the storage space is for a special warming pot.

The water boiler I described is a home appliance...not a Delica one. But the boilers are available at several Asian appliance stores in the Richmond area.
As for the original delica part....I wouldn't know where to find one except a used parts dealer in Japan.

So is this an actual cold/hot box that is tied into the a/c and heat system, or just a 12volt cooler/heater. I really hope this is a feature available on the series 2. If there was a spot to add one into my series 1 I'd have done it long ago.

It is an actual hot box that runs from the heater and a cold box that runs from the a/c

Sweet. That means my series2 that is in transit should have a spot to tee one in.
Thanks
