New in Canada

Hi everyone,

New to Canada, coming from France, I settled up with my girlfriend in the Kootenays along Kootenay lake. I now have to deal with our Delica, and try to fix all the issues we are having with that 1993 model.
So that's why I'm here now, as I was trying to find some information about gaskets and everything.

Dealing with a Delica here seems to be quite challenging. Even though when we were living in Vancouver. Now, so far away, I guess I'll need the community of the Delica club to learn how to deal with that. Mechanic, spare pieces....

So, I'd like you to be patient and understanding with me, because of the cultural gap, and language gap. I've learnt english at school, where "Where is Bryan ? Brian is in the kitchen" was the lesson. Now I need to deal with gasket goops, glow plugs, ECU, bus bar.... and where try to find all the parts.
I've already tried LordCo in Creston... and felt very lonely...
"Just in case, do you have parts for Delica ?"
"For what ?"
"That Delica out there, outisde !"
"Whooow man, that's a right hand side... well good luck with that...."

So first, I just know this van is a Delica from 1993. With a 2.4 engine size. I guess it's an Exceed... I guess also that it's a L300, and the engine a 4D5, as far as it looks like the one on the wiki.
May be you are going to be able to help me making sure that's the right one first.

Because now, I have to change to valve cover gasket, because I have a leak on the bottom of the half moon that is located in the back of the engine.
Reading the tutoriel I found here, I understood I have to get a kit, but didn't understood all the process, and where to add sealent and goop.

So, may be I'll have to ask all these questions, and more about glow plugs on the right forum...

Regarding the valve cover gasket: You may not need to change it. The leak from the half moon seal is often a result of not cleaning the head surface sufficiently before applying the sealant between the half moon seal and the head (and also the half moon seal and the valve cover gasket). If you do actually need to replace the gasket, half moon seal & two grommets ~ these can be had from a number of suppliers like: CC Autos; CVI; RSI; Maximum Overdrive; Amazing Autos; Japanoid, to name but a few.

A good forum for you to look at would be the FAQ & Technical Reference Libraries, which can be found in "Delica Canada Technical" in the board index.

Thank you very much for the help. Yes, I will try to locate the ID plate tomorrow, so as to find more details about that Van.
I guess I'm going to change all the gasket, because when I will open the valve cover so as to fix the half moon, I don't know in which shape that gasket is going to be. So ....

But I'm still reading the topics. So many... hard to know where to search. But you gave me the right direction, thanks a lot.

If its a diesel, which is most likely, its not 2.4, it's 2.5l, designation 4D56T. It's just that its 2,476cc, its the norm for actual volume to be slightly less than the 'size'.

Good luck with the seal, its not too hard to work on this engine.

In fact it's right the engine is a 2.5l, and 2476 cc, but it seems it's a 4D56, when I'm looking at the sticker in the engine. Is there a difference between the 4D56T and the 4D56 ?

of course... but I don't think there is a turbo on it...

The major of ours have turbo's. Without its very difficult to get up to freeway speeds.
