Installed stereo myself and clock light stays on all the tim

Post by adventuremike »

I'm not sure what I did wrong. I have the wiring info that tells me which wires from the 8 plug connector have the accessory power and the 12v power. My stereo would not work unless I used both the wires together. Any ideas what I may have done wrong? Will my van be dead tomorrow having the power to the clock all night?
Appreciate any feedback.

Cheers,
mike.

If you have a good battery it should take a week or more. Based on your post about your DRL module, headlight switch, and stereo/clock I would recommend you check out Tardis delis solutions or pm Jay/Christine. The headlight switch is a common problem in the L300s.

Search headlight switch, stereo/clock and look for answers there too.

Of course the clock display is on all the time, you just tied the permanent live to the switched accessory live so everything in the accessory switch position is now powered. Often stereos need 2 feeds these days, one switched via accessory to provide main power and a permanent live feed to maintain its memory. You should probably re-examine how its wired up and what the stereo feed requirements are.

If you wire the stereo wrong, this is a classic result.

Did you already cut the plug off the wiring harness in the van? If not, you could get a stereo wiring plug for a Dodge Colt - that'll work.

If you have cut off the plug from the wiring harness, search this forum for the wiring diagram of the stereo wires (the 'fix' has been posted on here a number of times). Mitsubishi didn't use the same colour wires as North American vehicles, so you cannot wire in a new stereo on wire colour alone.

..your stereo requires a constant 12v power supply, and an ignition power supply. Use a dummy light to identify which one goes on when you turn the ignition to the #1 position. It was pretty easy to find the constant/ ignition power wires in my L300 so I didn't use a guide/diagram. Sorry I cant remember the colors. I do believe the wiring diagram is posted somewhere on the site though...
