East coast insurance

Post by cd_photo »

Hey everyone,

My wife and I have recently been considering a move east, way east to Newfoundland or Nova Scotia. I did some searching on this topic and came up with a couple of threads, but thought I would put it out there again. I'm wondering if anyone has successfully registered and insured a vehicle in Newfoundland or Nova Scotia, and if so what was involved and how much did it cost? As a further question, where did/do you find parts?

Thanks,

Colin

There are definitely some registered and insured in Nova Scotia (I visited them) and I've seen a thread for someone in Newfoundland. They frequent the forum so hopefully they can chime in with some numbers for costs.

I know there are a few guys bringing them in through the port of Halifax and I've seen some on the roads in NS. I'm in NB and had no problem insuring mine with a company I've been insured with for a while. I never flagged that it was a RHD or anything. Just answer the questions!

Cheers

Nice the merritimes and Newfoundland are beautiful. I grew up in nb. Look at that province if your heading east. It has the coasts and beautiful valley s and low lands. And best of all the value for your dollar is better for relocating. To be honest my wife ( bc born ) and I keep talking about heading back. Seeings as how I should be one of you delica owners in the near future it's nice to know we coul get insurance if we did decide to go that route.

I have a 96 L400 and my son has a 93 L300. I have had my insurance for 1.5 years and my son just bought his van in Dec. He was quoted $1475. by the broker. He had one ticket for "not obeying a road sign". He is 19. After signing everything and paying the money the broker contacted us to say she had made a mistake. The insurance company had reviewed the the file and the price was going up.
$4738.00 Yup! This was with Nordic Ins Company of Canada. You can imagine our surprise and disgust. They would do nothing for us in the long run. I called around and found another broker that used Royal & Sun Alliance Canada. They came in at $2100. Still a lot but better that $4738. The broker he used was MacDonald Chisholm Trask in Bedford.

All that to say shop around. And good luck.
