Cold Start SUCCESS!!!

Post by Feds »

Just to make sure karma comes around and bites me in the ass:

I installed the Bosch glow plugs from Ebay UK a couple of months ago. My starting was much improved over last year (it used to fart and smoke below 5C), but we didn't have a real cold snap to test it.

Well, this morning was -16, and it fired up as soon as the glow plug light went out. No white smoke, no drama. I let it warm up in the driveway for 5 minutes while I got the coats on the kids, and it drove away with no issue.

Still to early to tell about longevity, but the Bosch glow plugs definitely work well down to -16.

Reference Data: '96 L400, dual batteries (that came with it from Japan), no block heater.

UPDATE: 15 Months/35000 kms and 2 of 4 plugs are dead. Other two work like new.
