Turbo Trouble
Under acceleration my 94 L400 has started to make a loud hissing noise, stops if i let off the accelerator. Seems like the turbo is not working/losing pressure? could this be a possibility? anyone have any advice?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Turbo Trouble
Loud hissing as someone mentioned in a previous reply to your post could the blowoff valve.
Have you checked all the intake hoses from the air filter box all the way to the intake manifold for loose hose clamps or damaged hoses?
Heres a link for the 2.8Lengine manual. If it turns out you need parts check out the Parts Section in Delica Trader (Link is at the top of Delica.ca)

Re: Turbo Trouble
As I said in the other post you had, it is most likely your blow off valve.

That, or your turbo waste-gate is stuck open.

Re: Turbo Trouble
Waste gate stuck open or the emergency pressure relief valve stuck open. No blow off valve on these vehicles.

Re: Turbo Trouble
Yeah....I forgot, turbo diesels don't use a blowoff valve.

Find a different mechanic!

Edit:
I am not suggesting you should buy this, I cannot vouch for the quality, but here is why I balk at a $500 price tag for I sticking your waste gate:

Re: Turbo Trouble
From the name you would think so but blow off valves are setup to activate when you quickly let off the throttle on a gasser so the turbo compressor doesn't stall out between gear shifts. The thing on the Delica is just an extra failsafe and should never 'blow' unless there is a problem with the wastegate or someone cranked up the boost too high when modding.Mr. Flibble wrote:Well damn. The pressure relief valve can screw up itself and 'blow' or leak when they shouldn't.
If you hear a whoosh of air in the engine bay when giving it right foot then its the pressure relief valve stuck open, if it still sounds normal then its likely teh wastegate stuck open (and air going out the exhaust).
Should be nowhere near $500 to just LOOK AND SEE if the wastegate is seized. Punch that mech in the dick and go somewhere else.mamalou wrote:Thanks for the tips guys ! mechanic says the waste gate is seized, he wants 500.00 bucks to take the turbo out and try to un -seize it and doesn't know if it is replaceable or what cost would be if wont come unstuck. Re: Turbo Trouble
A seized wastegate rod is a very common L400 mishap and very easy to remedy. Here's a 'how-to':
http://www.mdocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopi ... 787da5792b
You usually need to hold the rod with some grips while working it backwards and forwards to give you enough purchase.

Re: Turbo Trouble
Mamalou did you ever get to the bottom of this problem? I am experiancing the exact problem , but have not driven my van all winter , so am just looking at it now . I posted a thread back in Nov.,
http://www.delica.ca/forum/l400-wastega ... 13959.html )
and got the same replies from the good folks here on the forum. I've got some advice to try to fix the problem from Mardy I'm following up on, and also have a differant pop-off valve to try as well . I'm at this point, going after the actuator being seized, and will be working on that this weekend .
Let me know if you've fixed the problem and have advice for me or if I can offer up anything as I dig into it deeper at my end.
Cheers,
Neale
