models/mpg/info

Post by ivandewolf »

I moved to BC about 7 years ago, and have been seeing these cool looking Delicas for the first time. I suddenly need to replace my car, so I am looking into getting a Delica.

Obviously, I already like the car; I don't need a list of what's great about it, just what the problems can be with these cars. I see an ad for a company that fixes leaky turbos; obviously that happens to 'em. What else are common problems with 'em?

what's the differences between the different models, and years? (as brief as possible, please... :) )

what is the fuel economy like for the various models? I've seen anything from 10mpg to 35mpg on different websites, I'm baffled.

are there common things that some new buyers may not know or understand about 'em? weird laws or anything?

I bought a '91 L300 two-and-a-half years ago. Some of the issues I've had are...

> Water pump (common) replaced that and the timing belts at 135,000km (Timing belts should be done around 120,000)
> Leaky front and rear window gaskets (L300 - common) - could also leak at other locations.
> Blown out exhaust - common for age.
> Looking at suspension (just worn out)
> Turbo is leaking a tad but nothing major yet. (holding off)
When were air filter, glow plugs and such consumables last done (with the one you want to buy?)

I know others have longer lists and things to look for. Let's just say it gives them personality.

This site is great for referrals, references and information. Don't forget to get your decal and learn the "official" Deli wave!!!

Enjoy.
