I've seen the Ghetto Snorkel and, to be brutally honest, i don't like it. I like the idea, but it just a little too...ghetto.
I'm looking at making a stainless steel snorkel, but am trying to figure out all of the components. Does anyone have a picture that might illustrate all that is involved in a snorkel for an L300? Or, a detailed list of the components necessary. I've got the tube part sorted, I know I will have to drill a hole and know where to drill it, but how do I attach it, using what materials, what do I add as a filter, do I need a catch, etc?
Thanks

Re: Custom Snorkel
I can't find it, but there was someone who made a snorkel with rectangular tubing, (I think it was some kind of pvc, or maybe aluminum) but I believed it just clamped to the rain gutter on top. I think your stock filter is fine, as long as the snorkel seals good against the air box.

Re: Custom Snorkel
I imagine if you were going for bling factor, you could use Stainless or aluminum intercooler piping with those silicone elbows with hose clamps. If it can seal in boost pressure, I am sure it would be able to seal out water or whatever you are throwing at it. Personally i think it would look kind of dumb, but I am not a chrome guy

Re: Custom Snorkel
I don't want any silicone elbows, I would want to have it bent to conform to the curves of the van. From the sounds of it, I would just need pipe, a grill to stop larger objects from getting in and then use the silicone piping to connect it to the air box. If that's the case, this would be a very easy mod to do. I'm hoping to get some cash together and get a custom front bumper made with the bull-bars incorporated and for a better approach angle as well.
Thank you all for the insight, keep it coming if there's any more to be had!

I was definitely visualizing the silicone elbows inside the van on the airbox connection, not on the outside, I agree that would look fugly, unless you are going for that teenage rice rocket look.

Re: Custom Snorkel
350 odd auzzy bucks, plus shipping yeah I guess it could add up.
Ram air effect? I dont think you would see much of an effect on a normal snorkel unless you stuck a foot or more wide funnel on the end facing forwrds, course, you'd also have a deli that looked like it had a rash in a special place and you had to stop it licking.
