Re: Questions about engine component
While we are on the topic of those valves, seeing as the inakes are usually totally caked with grossness from the wonderful EGR, what are the chances that little valve will work properly during an over boost condition? Would it be a good idea to pull it out and clean/ inspect it? I don't imagine it would be straight forward to test, unless you made an adapter and put regulated shop air to it to see what pressure it is opening at.

Take it off and spray some brake parts cleaner at it. Odds are its fine. Unless I'm mistaken its secondary since over pressure normally vents into the exhaust?

Re: Questions about engine component
The wastegate function is to control the amount of intake pressure supplied for the engine. The "blow-off" on the intake is to prevent compressor damage on the INTAKE side if the wastegate allows overpressure.
The cap is simply a spring/diaphram...a little brake-kleen or WD-40 and a scrub should do.

Re: Questions about engine component
Today I got around to some work. I replaced the relief valve with a new one and also removed the EGR.
I'm a little nervous about actually starting it up now though.... Complete removal of the EGR is an option, right? As opposed to fitting the plates in and keeping the EGR bolted in, just blocked off, as shown in the post here http://www.mdocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=37
I completely removed the EGR and put plates at both ends. For some reason thats making me nervous...

You've Got it right. Mine made a very loud knocking sound when I first started it, turned it off right away, then started it up again and all was good.Bessie the Mud Slayer wrote:Today I got around to some work. I replaced the relief valve with a new one and also removed the EGR.

Re: Questions about engine component
Complete removal is fine. it serves no purpose other than reducing emissions that only are only relevant in japan.
