K&N filter number ... 2.8L Pajero?

Post by robbieg »

So, was perusing the K&N website, but apparently Pajeroes never came with a 2.8 according to them.

Has anyone run one? I'm thinking mine might be 20 years old.... maybe time for a replacement....

1994 MITSUBISHI PAJERO II 2.8L L4 DSL - All
and

1994 MITSUBISHI SHOGUN 2.8L L4 DSL - Turbo

And so on...

Both times I have put a K&N in a turbo'd vehicle (VW TDI and GMC Sierra 6.5TD) it has only caused problems. Engine lights, poor performance etc. I blame it on the turbo's sucking too much oil through the filter. But, I'm not a mechanic. I prefer high flow paper filters such as AirRaid, to avoid the possibility of oil-sucking. My $.02, or should I say $.00 seeing that we're rounding these days...

When I converted my series landy to tdi, I used the original oil bath filter and never had a problem, and thats wire wool sat in a pool of oil! Not denying your K&N experience, it just sprung to mind :D

The newer diesels with air flow sensors and such don't like K&N, or any kind of oiled filter. We have a few years before we have to worry about that on our JDM's.

I have the E-2871 K&N on my 94 2.8L and have had no problems. I ordered it through Crappy Tire for under $30 and had it in a few days. The only problems I have ever heard of with K&N filters is due to over oiling. But since these come pre-oiled, I wouldn't worry about that. As well, It may just be in my head but I feel an increase in low end power and it sounds better too. But to be fair, my previous filter was pretty much made of dirt, so any change would have been an improvement.

Yes, they come pre-oiled. You have to be careful when you clean and re-oil them though.
